What is BRCC’s tuition? I couldn’t tell from all of the separate fees (parking $125, etc). ?

Housing, Healthcare, and Education.
All heavily government subsidized.
Costs associated with all rise at rates above inflation.

Get government less involved and costs will drop.

amazing that tuition at uf if half of what it costs to go to lsu.

That's because the State of Florida is actually funding its public universities.

Damn. It was like $1200 when I started in 1996.

I think it was $1700 my last semester in 2001. It's crazy how much tuition has been inflated over the past 2 decades.

This is what bugs me when baby boomers talk about 'just work to pay your tuition'. My mom worked during the summers in the 60's and was able to pay for her entire years tuition. Where is an 18yo supposed to be able to find a job paying $4k/month after taxes that is hiring for the summer? You're basically forced to either have parents that can pay or you take loans and start your adult life in major debt.

Government loves having people pay the student loans back.

My first tuition check in 1981 was $350. With inflation that is about $950 in today's dollars. Granted there is more infrastructure and services at LSU now than in 1981 but 6 times as much? I don't think so.

for reference, Georgia Tech (a public school) has the following in-state costs:

$5,000 tuition per semester
$1,200 fees per semester

Tech was more expensive than LSU when I was going through the process. Was cheaper for me to go to school out of state unless I wanted to just go to GA Southern.

My mom Graduated LSU, so I had the legacy scholarship back then. Pretty sure they got rid of that several years ago.

Yes, eliminated about two years before my oldest child went off to college. Thanks LSU.

For those wondering how it breaks down, below is the itemized charges for this coming fall semester only for my daughter. This does not include room and board or meals.

Tuition $4,023.30
Academic Excellence Fee $245.00
Building Use Fee $48.00
Greek Life $67.00
Operational Fee $80.00
Required Activity Fees $637.70
Registration Fee $10.00
Student Excellence Fee $857.00
Technology Fee $75.00
Motor Vehicle Registration Fee $165.00
Chemistry Deposit $20.00

Total= $6,228.00
TOPS pays $3,931.49 and she is on the high end of it.

Good Lord. I paid about $2700 per semester after my TOPS was up to complete my electrical engineering degree in 2009-2010.

Don’t think many people care about the itemized costs. 6k is 6k

It certainly matters considering that TOPS only covers tuition and has for a long time. That's how they can say that TOPS is fully funded even though it still costs an extra $2k out of pocket to enroll.
