those avenues have been available for decades. This is just another way of putting a black label on a common product in order to segregate. That is ok.

Exactly.

If the same article was written for a white mental health hotline the vitriol would be off the charts.

Instead since it's a black hotline it gets lauded as a great achievement with every reason in the world why it's ok to segregate.

Any questions as to why it need to be black gets a condescending tone as to how can you not understand?

I do not understand because there certainly seems to be a double standard. It's confusing and nobody can explain why it's ok for blacks to segregate but not ok for other races.

What do you want? I said it was ok. Just admit that it is what it is.

It’s acknowledging reality. Not a racial one per se but one based on biases. People tend to trust those who are more likely to have a similar backgrounds: race, sex, religion, age, etc. Therapy is weird. It’s about open communication. It’s not like seeing any doctor where all you care about is if they can diagnose and perform surgeries extremely well. There’s more nuance to psychiatry. In this instance, I can see the need for a hotline tailored to this specific group. Just like other groups: suicide risks, gamblers, etc.

It works both ways.

You can't say segregation is ok in one instance for one group and scream for equally in the same breath.

You keep calling this segregation. It’s giving people a specific choice. A girl is asking for black therapists to answer calls. Black people aren’t forced to use it. And it’s not off limits to anyone else. That is NOT segregation. We have other instances like this in society where a service is offered and the person offering the service has specific attributes/features. Hooters is one example. Women servers who have to wear a uniform to look a certain way meant to serve a specific clientele: men. Except women and kids can be served too but they’re not really there for them, are they. Make sense now?

And we don’t have to pretend like biases don’t exist when it comes to service. Businesses literally advertise and brag when they have a local support team. Why? Because people have biases against automated systems and/or talking to someone who sounds Indian. Those businesses know that customers want to talk to someone who sounds like them. It makes the customer more comfortable. Communication is easier. People generally start the conversation more amiably.
