I pay 495.00 a month for health insurance with a 6500.00 deductible

Is there something accessible for me with no out of pocket expense?
Do they ask if you are white or black when you call?

because you can’t currently access basic healthcare services on campus if you’re black. this was definitely needed

Yes. They have suicide hotlines that I know of.

There’s free hotlines for all sorts of things. My current favorite is the sex addiction hotline, I call them 3-4 times a week

I was being ugly, I’ve had a really bad day

Mental health is a huge issue across the country
If this helps kids feel like they can talk to someone easier knowing they can relate better then I hope it works

I just hate how everything is being separated because of race

This is a situation where it makes sense imo.

So racism and segregation is ok when it comes to mental health. Got it.

I have no problems with it, but the people that push this directive just need to be honest when themselves and everybody else.

How is this either of those? Nothing is being forced. You’re just creating a service that allows the caller to know he or she is speaking with a person who is assumed to have a similar background and experiences. Which is kind of important to some people when looking for a therapist.

We as a society allow this to happen often. We don’t take college kids seriously when they give marriage or parenting advice right? We don’t expect them to have the wisdom on those areas. A black person may want to seek the guidance of another black person for a similar reason... expecting that black person to have a better chance of understanding.

In the end, it’s about more people seeking out help. And it’s about choice. No one is forcing black people to call this number.

If you can't see that the AA community needs this because of racism and being segregated then you are just lost. They're just trying to help each other ffs.

I think you just need to be honest with yourself and recognize that anything with the word black in it triggers you.

Black Mental Health Hotline

It is in the damn title, man

It is explicitly not for anyone that is not black. That is the definition of segregation.

frick that. Unity is not the goal. It is painfully obvious, and we don't need to act like it ever has been.

It's a horrible thing if you believe the only people that can help you are the ones with the same skin color it's disgusting and backwards.

Oh yeah man, they totally want you to use only their hotline and no other possible health services. That's what this is the start of.

This just affirms the segregationist mindset.

I see no rule that stops a white person from calling in.

I guess I don’t understand why what LSU offers isn’t good enough
It is implied that the current therapists cannot relate to all students & aren’t trained to help everyone

It really doesn’t matter what I think, if it helps 1 kid it will serve its purpose
