We're paying a shrimp boat captain 3mil to coach the football team.

I am not even sure he was the captain of that boat

Can tech design a biomedical research facility in a shorter time frame for s relatively low cost
Shouldn't be too hard, we already have a Biomedical Engineering department that (I believe) shares a building with it's Nanotech Engineering Dept. So yeah, I think they would know...

Was it Jindal that vastly increased Louisiana's share of medicaid expansion with Obamacare his first week in office?
Uh, no, but Medicaid expansion would actually provide more money to the LSU hospitals, bc more people would be covered, instead of indigent. So expansion would have no detrimental effect on this situation. But congrats on living up to your name.

Absolutely. And the hospital in Shreveport serves twice the number of patients and receives 1/3rd of the funding that goes to the hospital in New Orleans.
This nails it....NO is getting paid dollar for dollar while BRF is getting reimbursed .30 on the dollar. Now BRF is to blame for agreeing to that deal but the State refuses to renegotiate it.

Colorado says HIGH.
Legalize & fund education & healthcare with the tax revenue generated from legalization.
fricking trailer park politicians in Louisiana would never be able to figure this out though.

I'm not arguing against efficiency. I think the state absolutely needs to be more efficient and our elected officials need to learn how to spread the money that's allocated to them.
I'm simply saying that perhaps instead of closing down educational facilities in a state that's bottom of the barrel; maybe we should focus on not electing representatives based on skin color and how much of a coonass accent they have. BR has a mayor that's greasing palms of every slimy individual she's connected with.
Instead of taking away educational facilities, that could possibly get us on par with the rest of the country, maybe we shouldn't elect shite heads.
We say it all the time on the OT when discussing a Toyota, Nissan, Amazon, etc facility being built that "boy it'd sure be nice if Louisiana had a shot at this but we don't because our education system sucks", only to turn around and say "Aw hell, that piece of shite we elected is spending too much money; better shut a school down."
Perhaps we should be less reliant on the oil field and actually diversify our economy. That way, whenever Houston goes down a bit and is done pimping our coastline for a while, our entire state doesn't go broke because it's the only jobs we have here. Our entire economy revolves around petrochem and logging. We are West Virginia, only offshore rigs are our coal mines
Dude there's way too many undergraduate schools in the state. I don't know how you could argue against that. We have like 10 that have under 15,000 students. Just by eliminating some of those you get rid of a lot of those administration salaries, which would save millions. That's before any operational savings.
I don't know a single Louisiana that would say the education system is up to par, but we are over spending and under performing. A lot of the reason for that is we keep schools with terrible performance that also hermerage money open.

Not exactly sure what you are asking, but short answer is the idiot drove up medicaid and healthcare expenses for the state and its citizens by REFUSING "Obama care." We were basically subsidizing health insurance for the rest of the country while not getting any benefits of the program. National healthcare was and still is a good idea, but the implementation was flawed out the gate so I'm glad it's going away until someone figures out how to do it properly.
That still doesn't change the fact that he cost our already cash-strapped state hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds because of his political ambitions. He had been planning a run for the presidency and it was obvious his second term that he didn't care about this state except for what be could get out of it. He wanted to be known as a Republican governor who said no to "Obama care." Not only did he build our deficit, but he turned down funds that could have helped us.

Are you talking about the Medicaid expansion? It was the right decision. This state is REALLY fricked when the federal funds stop in a few years and the state is responsible for the entire bill.

I'd like to see how many $100k plus salaries there are in the admin at SUNO, and then see how many on that list are related to black legislators.
That's the real reason it's untouchable. It's a pell grant scam for the students and a patronage scam for the employees. And they can all cry racism at the first mentions of closure.

Louisiana is on the hook for all of it in 2019.
Expansion of Medicaid is a catastrophically bad idea from a budget standpoint in states like Louisiana.

It's all really just the good old boy network doing it's thing.
Ya know who they are working toward taking over University Hospital and bringing competition to Willis Knighton? Oschner that's who.
Oschner seeking to expand it's multi-million dollar executive pay "non-profits" into North Louisiana. And Oschner using it's state legislature and media connections to get it done on the cheap. Cheap for Oschner anyway.
BRF just got awarded some contracts for like a 1/2 billion from either the FedGov or overseas so it's not like they lack funding supporting their hospitals. They also have filed several anti-trust lawsuits against Willis Knighton trying to grab the LSU Med School.
It's a power struggle for the lucrative state money supporting the Med School. That F. King head of LSU is simply entering the fray to get his in the state wallet.

I don't believe that is true. The feds are paying 95% of the total costs right now and that drops down to 90% in 2020.
In the short term (through 2020) I would say its better financially to accept medicaid expansion. After 2020 is when shite will hit the fan but JBE doesn't care since he will only be a one term governor anyways.

IMO it was irresponsible to accept that just after taking office, then immediately start bitching about budget problems. JBE threw a hand grenade into Louisiana's medium and long term budget outlook.
I honestly don't see oil and gas prices rising enough to offset this. Louisiana's largest cities are going to see steep decline unless things change quickly with their leadership. There is a brewing pension crisis on the horizon, there is not enough diversification of industry, and there's not enough net contributors to shoulder the tax burden.

Lafayette has pretty good leadership. I fail to see how BR residents really argue against that with SWB and her cronies looking to turn BR into Jackson west.
