He probably is because that is his go to move, but there is an opt out clause of the hospital deals in 2018. LSU and the operators of the other hospitals have already reached deals so there is no issue with them, but he could just be trying to build support to get the legislature and governor to let LSU opt of its deal with BRF next year.

This is essentially correct. BRF was a private takeover type deal that has some very seedy connections involved. Basically it is a typical Louisiana political Quagmire. The state budget could be fixed very easily but it would require a new state constitution and eliminating a lot of these public/private arrangements that benefit a select group of politically connected individuals at the expense of the tax payer. I fear that the situation will never be resolved as we have way too many corrupt politicians who continue the same games though.

I think it's hilarious that citizens of Louisiana will speak out against too many schools. This state ranks as terribly in almost every category that makes somewhere good and highly in everything that makes a place bad. Our education system, healthcare, infrastructure, and pay vs cost of living is among the worst in the country. All while our crime, poverty, taxes, and obesity rates are among the highest.
Like a trained monkey we run to "yea, we don't der need nun dem ol skulez. Moore oil feeld moneez an truk nutz dammit"
Of course we need to hold our policy makers and politicians to a higher standard, but challenging the necessity for education in a state like Louisiana doesn't sound like a recipe for success.

Quantity doesn't equal quality.
We do have too many 4 year universities for our population.
Get rid of a few of them and put the money from there into the remaining schools and make them better.

I don't think you necessarily cut down the number of available seats. You just need to make North LA choose to come South to the larger populations to go to medical school.
