Not that much considering new Orleans has lost 850 million in tax revenue

Good. Let's hope they lose more because of their embrace of BLM. Maybe LSU will finally get rid of the top-heavy bloat on campus.

Problem also is businesses rely on uptick in the college towns for football. I know it does in baton rouge.

Cry me a river. The university should have a budget that is sustainable off tuition and grants alone.

And whoever is running T&F, gymnastics and women's basketball needs to be fired for losing 2 to 3 million per year. Serious those sports need to be cut if there is no way to get them close to break even.

In no way would I be upset if they cut all of those sports that are in the red. Who the f watches college tennis or golf. Even men's basketball is hard to watch.

If LSU is depending on football revenue to make their budget, they are going to be f'd once they start having to pay the players and if I'm a player I would be pissed that LSU is making 80MM off of the team while me and my teammates get jack shite. Players being indentured servants is the real issue here.

Pay the players. All these universities worried about losing tens of millions of dollars off "amateur" athletes. It's disgusting how big college sports have become off the backs of these kids. The vast majority of which will never play professionally.

But is that worth losing even just 1 black or brown body?

Um, you clearly don't understand how any of this works. LSU athletics is a different entity from the University. It is not funded through tuition, grants or student fees. They are one of a handful of schools that are truly a self-funded operation. The $80 mil loss referenced in the article is about athletics, not academics.

Many feel this way but there is this pesky little law called Title IX. In a nutshell, they have to provide the same opportunities to female sports no matter how much money it loses. LSU was sued in the 90s over title 9. There is no chance in hell congress will change this law anytime soon. So football will have to continue financially supporting all these non-revenue sports.

That is the same logic when fewer students yield less in tuition funds. But every one sees it as a cut. That is the problem with government think. Because they always expect to get the same or more every year.

I can remember when Louisiana college departments would look at their funds in late in the fiscal year and see how much money was left in their budgets and then clean them out. They knew that all of it had to be spent otherwise next year they wouldn’t get as much or they wouldn’t get an increase.

And every single one has a completely free ride to a four year degree, all expenses paid, and in the case of the P5, top of the line medical, athletic training, and nutritional care.

Title IX says otherwise.
