Louisiana Tech student hospitalized after being hit in crosswalk

RUSTON, La. (KNOE) - A Louisiana Tech University student is hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in a campus crosswalk, Wednesday morning.
Campus Police Chief Randal Hermes says the incident happened around 8:00 A.M.
He says the driver, Noah Blessings, was headed southbound on Tech Drive when he hit a student using the crosswalk near Mitchell dormitory.
Hermes says first responders airlifted the victim to Oschner-LSU Health in Shreveport. He says the victim suffered scrapes and bruises to his head. Hermes says the victim also has a severe leg injury.
He also said Blessings told officers he was going "about 40" mph. The road has a speed limit of 25. Blessings also reported that he was talking on his cell phone.
Hermes says Blessings never touched his break. Blessings, who is also a student, is cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
A few people were hit here when I went there and one girl over by the art building.

Faaaaaar from the first time. It interrupted us watching a Saints game in the Mitchell dorm one Sunday.
“WHAM”
First down!
*guy on edge of couch who can see the crosswalk “Uh. There’s a guy just got hit.”
Us* “Damn.......someone should call the ambulance. Touchdown!”
The guy went about twenty feet and got to live in one of the stellar on campus apartment for free/half off/something after that because the dorms are not handicap accessible.

I hate driving around Techs campus. Imagine if LSU had walkways going across Nicholson for students. It’d be a nightmare. That’s pretty much what Tech does. Walkways going across main highways

I know this happened during the morning, but at night it's so dark at the two crosswalks you can't see anyone walking.
