Louisiana task forces look to overhaul economic development with social justice bent
First before you see these terrific ideas Louisiana has laid out, please fill out the Louisiana Dept of Insurance's new Social Equality Study it just put out for comment.
La. Dept of Insurance & Equality public comment survey

Social equity and inclusion are overarching themes in a task force report with recommendations ranging from creation of new positions within state government to reforming existing economic incentive programs to include more small businesses.

Dozens of leaders across the state met remotely for more than six months to discuss how Louisiana's economy could become more resilient. The report was released to Gov. John Bel Edwards on Friday.

The final report — Louisiana has finally found the answer to its economic woes — includes feedback from more than 300 residents and leaders on 15 different task forces appointed by the governor to tackle issues stemming from the coronavirus pandemic and beyond.

Representatives suggested that the state create an office of social equity inside the governor's office tasked to consider any policies through an "equity lens" that takes into account historical social and racial inequality.

Representatives also suggested expanding the state's Angel Investor Tax Credit Program to allow for qualifying investments in woman-owned, minority-owned and veteran-owned businesses — not just high-growth startup companies.

Organizers want the state to lead a minority capital investment fund for small businesses and support a statewide increase in the minimum wage beyond the federal level of $7.25 per hour.

Our state currently ranks dead last in GDP growth. Maybe some identity politics will fix it

The only way to achieve equality is to have a tired system whereby we treat people differently according to their race and gender.

It's like they're separate, but also equal at the same time.

I'll guarantee you every college in Louisiana, just like every other state has diversity personnel. Use them. You are already paying them to come up with how white people are racist. And they all make $100K+.

Just had to make sure this wasn’t really the title. Don’t know why that made me feel better.

The fact that you can identify as whatever you want actually works in our favor. Fun little unintended consequence.

Just think what would happen if parents in the hood made their children go to school and learn. What if parents took responsibility in the raising of their kids to break the chains of poverty... nah frick it we will add more bureaucracy and avoid the underlying issues and further run business out of the state.

I always laugh at people that say “contact your rep!” or something similar.

You know what happens when you contact someone anyone from your state government? It goes to the spam folder where an automatic e-reply is created and sent back. They’ll never see it. If someone in the office DOES see it, it’s some intern or secretary that will reply with “we will take it in consideration.”

In reality, they don’t care about you or your problem. They’ll do what they want to do and for whatever incentive is there for them to take.
