Not sure it’s even debatable to think it isn’t the worst

We sank to the top..!
I guess someone has to be last, and maybe we'll get some notoriety out of it as people come to our defense to proclaim, "Hey, take it easy on them; they're no worse than 45th..!".
In all seriousness, I have been a LOT of places around the country, and we are not so bad compared to many of them, and pretty danged good compared to parts of many others. Do we have Rocky Mountains (or any mountains), sugar sand, trout streams with not-brown water, perfectly blacktopped and manicured byways with no trash, PhD's on every corner, or an ultra-refined lifestyle? Clearly not.
But generally speaking, people get along, it's real, it's home, and it's definitely unique. I've been around -- you can go anywhere in the world, and people know about Louisiana.
We have the best food in the world. You can't get a good oyster po-boy anywhere else. Fresh shrimp and crabs. Crawfish any way you want it. Boudin, cracklins, gumbo, debris, jambalaya. Redfish, Snapper, Specs, Drum, Amberjack, Swordfish, Grouper, you name it. NOLA restaurants, Mardi Gras, JazzFest, the Basin, Acadiana. Streetcars, Uptown, the French Quarter...Pat O'Brien's for Gods sake.
And I ask you, (very serious now) on a big-game SEC Saturday Night, is there any place anywhere in the entire world more electric than Tiger Stadium??? If there is, I'd sure like to know about it.
OK, I get it. With all the health issues borne of indulgence, plus the air, the chemical plants, the low standard of living, poor education, racial inequality, no manufacturing base, test scores, etc., etc., we've clearly got room for improvement.
But 50th..?? No possible way.
Life is what we make of it, not what some DC publication says it is.
Accordingly, they can STTDB....

What's so great about Idaho?

I can think of many, many places I would rather not live but I put a premium on food, fun and entertainment. I do my best to insulate myself from the unpleasantries.

I mean the food is better than anywhere else , I can play golf 12 months out of the year…

These best places ranking list are meant for progressive leftwing types who want the world to be Brooklyn.

All. Maybe south carolina on the coast.
Once lived 10k miles or so from here... NEVER AGAIN
Hell, give me a billion dollars and I'd probably just buy land around me and build a larger house.
I might have a place in Italy, buy back the ancestral home in new orleans, and buy a place outside of Sassnitz Germany to visit ze fatherland.

These worst/best rankings are so dependent on an individual's socioeconomic status. Would rather be upper middle in Louisiana than middle or lower in Massachusetts or other high ranking states.

There are nice places to live in Louisiana and shitty places. I’d argue it’s more regional and local than statewide. Statewide isn’t really a good measure. I wouldn’t want to live in Compton or East St. Louis. I’d rather live in Madisonville for example.

Really does not help when most small towns are crime ridden shite holes also. Probably more shootings per capita in small towns these days.

Demographics likely play a role

Empirically, if you've got a little cash this is a great state to live in.
Yup. If you can swing private school and a good neighborhood, LA is awesome. Hunt, fish, golf, festivals all year round.

4.Minnesota
5.Nebraska

These lily white states will truly never understand what we have to deal with.
Louisiana taxpayers have to feed and house a certain class while that class at the same time controls all of our cities and our public education.
Louisiana’s best and brightest tend to leave as soon as they graduate. I came back because I love my shithole state.

Nebraska, Kansas, and Wisconsin are better. Mississippi, WV, and NV are a wash. Switch cheese curds with crawfish and Wisconsin is pretty similar to the good parts. Everyone has a 30+ BMI, drinks heavily, hunts, fishes and loves football. Minus the fattys I’d put Wisconsin in the top 10.
