I’m sure a lot of this list is based on healthcare outcomes and Louisiana’s average healthcare customer is a Medicaid gunshot victim or a Medicaid 400 pound pregnant diabetic

Yep, evidently they asked a bunch of people, many of which likely won’t be able to retire, what they valued the most for places to retire.

Texas would be one of my last, if not my last option to retire in. The weather is worse than LA. I'm in Houston monthly for work and have been for 25 years.... hell no.

Yet one of the best states to fish in.

I’m good.

Louisiana is by no means the best state to retire, but it ain’t the worst.

It absolutely is. The mix of taxes, severe weather, and access to healthcare puts it squarely in last. No other state is bad in all 3 of those

other states are still taxing the helll out of seniors for their annual tax to live in the home they own.

No they aren’t

If your house is less than about $400k in Texas you play like $1k a year in property taxes in most jurisdictions

depends on what you want.

I want low cost of living, cheap land in a semi rural area, long growing season, fresh seafood, warm winters and easy access to the places I want to travel to. I have all that in Hammond America so I’m staying put. I can go see and experience all those other (better/prettier/etc) places and then come home. Best of both

And don’t forget Texas property tax. I’ll stay in Louisiana, maybe head to MS.

Ok. I could see that.

The property tax that gets additional homestead exemption and frozen at 65?

maybe head to MS.

The state that exempts retirement income?

I’ll stay in Louisiana

The state that does absolutely nothing for seniors?

I live outside of a small town in our state and I love it. reasonable cost of living, our public school system is really good due to the number of graduates who return home after receiving their teaching certification. Children live nearby and combined income for them and their partners exceed $200K .
My wife and I are retired and could live anywhere but choose to live here.

For those who are critical of our choices, the door to the state swings both ways. If you're not happy here, then go somewhere else!

The article is stupid on it's face and is written so trolls will have something to bitch about.

if my office wouldn't be were it is, Bay St. Louis would be a nice small town that is really doing well and has a good future. Never would of thought I would say that about MS.
