And if I’m not mistaken if the EO is over riden I don’t think I’ve can sign another one??

Depends on the what the passed petition says. It can set a prohibitive limit.

quote:

(2) The legislature, by petition signed by a majority of the surviving members of either house, may terminate a state of disaster or emergency at any time. This petition terminating the state of emergency or disaster may establish a period during which no other declaration of emergency or disaster may be issued.

Who knows josh on here?? Y’all get him to open salons. Money, at least line, would be flowing in Lafayette if I can find a hairdresser who won’t make me wear a mask.

I doubt the republicans of this state have the balls to override JBE. He has been slapping them around for 5 years, why is it going to change now.

Maybe they are starting to fear the people more than the governor

So JBE is headed to DC tomorrow to meet with Trump — I was hopeful it was for a scolding as they’ve touted that Louisiana is doing well but posters in the thread about it are making me nervous.

Think Trump would help JBE keep us closed by pressuring the legislature to drop their hopeful EO turnover??

Who here would be willing to bet their life that Sharon Weston Broome won't instantly implement draconian measures if the legislature goes through with it?

What’s to stop her from doing it now?

Well, she doesn't have to because of the governor's order.

Why not act like an adult and just wear the mask?

I would wear a hazmat suit if my girl was able to do my hair.

Well, seems like this is going nowhere. Shame on me for getting my hopes up that politicians were going to fix something. One thing that pisses me off even more is I emailed my House Rep asking her if she supported this and I didn't get a reply.

Been wondering if this “supermajority” was ever going to do anything

I was hopeful, too. But I did find out some things that might explain their unwillingness. If JBE’s order is rescinded, it does not fall to the legislature to make the decisions regarding reopening. It falls to parish presidents—> mayors.

Given the fact that some “mayors” operate out of a back room in their double-wide with a “police chief” making rounds in the family mini-van, do we really want them to make these decisions?

Another factor is, IF (it won’t) but IF things blew up again, they have removed JBE’s ability to issue a new order for 60 days.

It’s just not a risk that some are willing to take. That being said, if he extends it again they may be more willing to do so. Hopefully just the threat of this will be a factor in his decisions..but I doubt it.

They are messing with federal assistance if they override. An old adage, don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.

At least my Representative emailed me back:

quote:

Dear Mr. Thanks for writing! We have been working to build support to terminate the governor’s emergency orders for a few weeks now. I helped with the drafting and have already signed. Although the statutes provide that a simple majority of either house of the legislature may terminate an emergency order at any time, it has never been done before as far as I know. So we are awaiting the opinion of legal experts to be sure there are no unintended effects before we submit the petition. For now, if you hear from anyone who wants to help, please ask them to contact their House member and urge them to sign the petition to terminate the emergency orders. Thanks! Beryl A. Something tells me it will conveniently take 2 weeks to get that opinion back.
