Just woke up for a quick, middle of the night model check. If anything, this system is looking more impressive on models, as more come into agreement that this should stay all freezing rain. This should overspread the area in the next couple hours, bringing some pretty incredible amounts of ice. It’s entirely possible that some locations see around an inch of freezing rain accumulate on elevated surfaces. Tree damage, and power outages are likely. I’m going to snooze a bit more, then get the coffee flowing. I just wanted to post something quick to let you know which way this was trending.

WAFB saying high of 50 today. Weather channel doesn’t show it getting above 41 on their hourly forecast.

Up to drive kid to Starbucks. I never taught him to drive in winter weather, because we moved away from that climate when he was 16. Here's my take on things. -- I live in St George.

The weather channel will be off on temp, and at this point, I would not get too hung up on it. If the sun does not come out, and it may not- we are in for another winter weather event when the rain comes through. With that said, whatever falls will definitely ice tomorrow, if it's rain. If it's ice or snow, it will just jack up surfaces and roads if a considerable amount falls.

( I am not a meteorologist)

shut down the Keystone Pipeline that has moved natural gas across the country

The Keystone pipelines move crude oil, not natural gas. Biden shutdown construction of the XL phase, which only about a mile had been completed in the US. What he shut down has not yet moved any crude oil or natural gas.

Anybody driven I-55 in MS? I need to get back to TN but looking pretty iffy on beating this next system.

I can see a little from traffic cams and it appears a few cars are moving on it but getting stuck in Jackson sounds way worse than sitting in LA for 3 more days.

Any reports west of Alexandria as to what's actually falling? Was thinking maybe I could drive to work today, but now now sure.

You might be able to get to work...getting back is going to be the bigger problem.

100% chance of rain today feels like 0% chance my power comes back on today. Still trees on lines on my little rural street.

I'd also be worried about the doors freezing shut if not under covered parking.

WAFB also said Baton Rouge would have 4 hours above freezing and a high of 36 for yesterday. The high in Baton Rouge yesterday was 27.
