Grandparents always want to see their grandchildren, so not a terrible idea. Another option would be staying at one of the casinos for a couple days.

On the parkway. I’m one of the lucky few that didn’t lose power.

Tighter than Andy Dufresne's when he saw The Sisters approaching.

I'm thinking of driving to my parents place in the morning near Alex as they have a whole home generator, so even if they lose power, we will be good

I have a 4x4 truck and we will travel backroads at 45 mph the entire way, it may take us 4 hours to get there

Tough situation. Do you have a portable heater and fuel for it? I wouldn't leave home without one right now. If you go, pack a shitload of blankets.

Roads seem dry. What’s the chances of I-10 between Kenner and NO being closed.

Candle (even a small one) and a coffee tin makes a decent heater in a pinch.

Round 2 commencing for us tomorrow. 2 to 4 more inches predicted which means 4 to 8 actual. The good news is it will become warmer but still below freezing until sometime Friday

Now I know why bears hibernate - to stay out of this foolishness - may join them next winter

So in BR area, so you run the outside faucets overnight w/temp in teens? Have them insulated, except for nozzle.
Didn't see a precautions thread.

You should wrap the hydrants outside. Use old towels, plastic shopping bags, and duct tape. They are likely frost-free hydrants, but they can still freeze. Don't run those outside hydrants. That would put water in it that will freeze.

I’ve got outside faucets covered with styrofoam. Running the hose in the barn for water needs back there. Will run the tub faucet in the house overnight

Those work. Be careful of any wax buildup. That wax will burn.

You can do it- IF you are careful. 3 years ago- mid January, Central Alabama got smoked. I-65 closed at Mobile. Went up thru Spanish Fort, then Atmore, and all the way into the central part of the state. Slow, slow, like very slow. Truck in 4WD and it was generally smooth sailing.

Wrap hoses with rags and drip indoor faucets and open your attic (only if your power is still on)

I’ve never done the open attic thing. It seems overkill to me

Seems like a shite ton of cold air would drop down on my thermostat and the heater would run continuously.

This. Getting in a hurry is the worst thing you can do and is counterproductive if something happens.

Going in daytime is the best. You can see and there should be more people out if something happens.
