You have to include property tax to a correct estimate. I have family in FL and TX and they pay 15 to 20 times what I pay in property taxes.
the state is going to get your money, one way or the other

It's sales tax, not income tax.
But look at Oregon up there with no sales tax. Pretty odd for that commie state.

Does the index consider local sales and property taxes?
Of course, dumbass. Look at the rankings. The state rate in Louisiana is pretty low

The cities of Alameda and Albany in Alameda County, CA have a sales tax of 10.75%
And sales tax generally isn't referred to as "state tax", that is generally the personal income tax. And CA's is TWICE that of Louisiana.

Every step of the way you have been wrong.
You started an argument with me over the op being misleading, he is being misleading, and over your stupid map that doesn't even have all of the taxes included in it.
What are you going to argue over next? That there is no inventory tax?

Every state is different, but as an example, coke machines and its ingredients are not taxable to restaurants in Texas. The machine itself qualifies for the manufacturing exemption and the syrup and carbonated water qualify as products to be manufactured. So only the end product is taxable to the customer, but the machine itself is never subject to tax.
So no, you do not pay tax on every piece of equipment.

Subject says highest state taxes in the nation. but I just see sales Tax rates listed in your post. Is Louisiana the highest with sales tax, income tax, property tax, gas tax, and whatever else is taxed all combined?

Never thought Louisiana would have higher taxes than Illinois. Holy shite!
Louisiana doesn't, dumb arse. You're looking at one component of taxation.
When you factor in all forms of taxation, LA is #12 in the country for the lowest tax burden. Illinois is #44.
Kentucky is 17. It's even worse than LA. Thanks for stopping by.

What are you looking at? In what way would it make sense in your mind that Illinois has a lower individual tax burden than LA? You're probably factoring in corporate taxes which is a little misleading because LA waves or reduces a ton of those for large employers.
And I apologize. My numbers were from 2022. Now LA is #27. It's a disturbing trend. Illinois is #8
