Born and raised here. Houma, Thibodaux, New Orleans, LaPlace.

Lived Nashville for awhile it was nice, but it wasn't Louisiana.

Lived in Auburn Hills, MI was really pretty. Young hip place but it wasn't Louisiana.

Decided I would never live out the state every again. No place is perfect, but we got soul y'all and that what makes up better than any other state.

We have our own food, music, and way of life that many try to imitate but could never duplicate.

Great place to visit. Would rather live elsewhere.

Louisiana is a great place aside from the religious busybodies, thugs, crime, corrupt self-serving politicians, and rednecks/swamp trash.

La. has many great qualities and some negatives as well, just like any other state. But who in the hell tries to imitate La?

I can attest to the fact that places do try to imitate the food. I always laugh when I see anything "cajun" on a menu up here, which is typically a "cajun chicken sandwich" or something God-awful like that.

But yeah, no one is trying to imitate anything else about Louisiana.

I am very happy that I grew up in Louisiana and would not trade that experience for the world. I left Louisiana at the age of 28 and have since lived in 5 other states. During this time, I learned that there are so many things wrong with Louisiana that there is no way I would move back and raise my family there.

I am proud to say that I am from Louisiana, but am also very happy that I left.

"An" definitely sounds more correct.

The issue of having "trashy" places is not unique to Louisiana. I have traveled the US and can tell you that every state has them.

So true. Trash are unavoidable no matter where you go. I think once you accept this, you will stop getting annoyed by trashy people.

I get what you are saying, but if that is his logic then it is very flawed. That is exactly the same as someone saying that if your city/state has a pho restaurant in it then you are trying to imitate Vietnam, if you have a restaurant that serves Boston Clam Chowder then you are trying to imitate Boston, etc...

Makes me cringe as well. They think if it's blackened or spicy as hell it's "cajun".

Was a dumb statement but he came back and defended it well. /sarcasm

But typically whenever you see a Pho restaurant, it's actually owned and operated by a Vietnamese person. I've never been to a Thai place and had an Irish Catholic from Southie ask if my pad thai is wicked awesome.

So that's not imitating, that's someone from the area bringing it somewhere else.

Conversely, I was at a Canadian-based chain last week and they had a "Cajun Chicken Sandwich" on the menu. THAT is imitating (and poorly I'd bet, I'd never order it to find out though).

And no, I really don't see any other typically Louisiana things being attempted outside Louisiana, with the exception of Jazz music. So I stand by that statement.

Have lived in Merritt Island, FL, Wake Forest, NC, and (now) Katy, TX in addition to Slidell.

I would start packing to move back to the Northshore as soon as I finish typing this post if I could. No place like home.

Love LA.

It doesn't go off of what letter the word starts with. It goes of the sound of the letter. To pronounce LSU, it is el for the L. Since it sounds like a vowel, you use an instead of a. I will agree that education can suck here in Louisiana, but this is something being taught to my daughter in 1st grade in a public school. Granted, she is in an advanced study school. You are probably like me and don't remember the rule.
