Lost a very old friend yesterday

Taking a step back into reality at this moment, I'm pausing to give thanks and recognition to one of my family's oldest friends, and one of my most cherished childhood's giant,

our grand oak tree in our family home backyard.

For a long as I have been alive, this tree has been a part of my life. Climbing, hide and seek, tag home base, home to wildlife, family pictures with it, our friend had a great existence and will be remembered fondly.

For the latter part of it's life, after lightening strikes, multiple tropical storms and hurricanes, it began to show it's pain and struggle to stay intact. Limbs would fall into our neighbor's yard. The fence would get damaged and need repair. It's towering height became too much to compete with after the insurance agent declared the liability issue to my mother. It was taken down yesterday, piece by piece, leaving a hole in the landscape and a hole in our hearts as big as it had in it's trunk.
