However, as soon as shite goes sideways, people will start screaming that real police should have been there.
Just look at Seattle and CHAZ for a real life example

How long until the first social worker is killed on the job?
After a few killings, they will start arming the social workers.
Then more will be killed and the social workers will demand protection and they will receive bullet proof vests.
Then that won’t be enough and so on and so on....

The thing is, most police departments of any real size or scope, already employ social workers. They are actually used regularly with mental health calls and the like. This is not a new idea, necessarily. Eliminating the traditional police officer element, which now is always the first on the scene, is new. I don't think this will last, and is likely to never be fully developed and/or implemented.

This really only sounds like a PR move. Most issues are probably nonviolent. But those are the ones that NEVER result in any escalation . So nothing is gained by the leftists
Further, a problem I have is that you now want the police to handle ONLY violent type situations
Where and when will the police learn to interact with the public in handling these potentially dangerous situations?
Removing them from the “petty “ issues is a disservice to the rookie cops learning their career
In the long run, this only will make matters worse

Let them test their latest “utopia” idea way over there. Those that don’t like it can move
And wasn’t Demolition Man set in the Los Angeles area......

Too bad you will never get to see or hear the true details off any of these calls. They will for sure filter any details to show their new program is working flawlessly.

This is great, and these experts should always be the first responders on all domestic calls, where the parties involved just need some marriage counseling and the like.

I support.
LA is already the safest city in America.

he move to replace some police with trained crisis responders is one component of the movement. Supporters of defunding police -- either abolishing police entirely or shrinking their departments' budgets and reinvesting those funds in education or housing -- believe that unarmed workers trained to deescalate violence could better serve some community members.
IMHO.... they have it backward.
Instead of these responders being "not police" but specially trained,
should be -
"police" with additional training.
They could also change the appearance of police uniforms so that the are less threatening, something different with gun belt.
Also, the police pay should be raised along with the standards set to become an officer. This is the CORE of the problem.

What happens if a non-violent call....turns violent?

Wait, is LA represented primarily by Democrats?
Hasn’t LA almost solely had Democrats in every available office?
Hasn’t LA had a Democrat mayor since likely the last 50 years?
And the police are just now a problem? Why didn’t any of these Democrats reform the police ?

And when some soft headed ditz fresh out of college goes to respond to some cracked out violent crazy person, then gets her arse taken hostage and violently raped...who are they gonna send in for that? A guidance counselor? Maybe a puppeteer?

And certain demographics will be unable to meet the higher standards and will lead to a lowering of standards which got us here in the first place.

Democrats haven't fixed anything in my lifetime. They just break shite and then blame it on someone else.
