Not even close to being true.
He earned his tab and is Ranger qualified.

It's really going to blow the minds of the people at Salon when they find out that you can serve in a Ranger battalion without previously going to Ranger school
Yeah. This isn't quite the gotcha the writer thinks it is.
Yeah. They’re really stretching with this one. The guy graduated from Ranger School. And he served as an Infantry Platoon Leader in combat. The story is bullshite “gotcha” politics. Sadly most civilians don’t know thr difference.

Exactly. Attending Ranger school and completing Ranger School are two vastly different things.

Most civilians wouldn’t know that Ranger School is up there with BUDS, Selection Course and IOC. It is a grueling 2 month school that focuses on squad level tactics and usually has a very high attrition rate. Completing the course and earning the tab is viewed favorably by all combat arms across the different services.

Soldiers who complete the course earn the right to wear the Ranger tab — a small arch that reads "Ranger"

Also- Am I reading too much into it or does it sort of sound like the writer is belittling the tab a bit?
Betcha that writer wouldn’t make is two hours in Ranger School.

Tom Cotton is a decades-long career Congress ghoul waiting to happen.
Now we just know he's a lying cuck too.
What did he lie about? He graduated Ranger School making him Ranger qualified and given the right to wear the Ranger tab. He is a Ranger. Period.

This sounds a bit like the story of Jesse Ventura saying he was a Navy seal. He went through buds training like other seals but he was assigned to an underwater demolitions team.
The seals don't have a problem with him claiming he was a seal.

Yup. Don Shipley says if you went to BUDS you are a SEAL, even though BUDS predates anyone actually describing any unit as a "SEAL unit."
Kind of wish Don would dive into the whole "Edwin Edwards was a Navy SEAL" question.

This whole "story" is absolute horseshite. I was in the 82nd and me and every other MFer in Alcoholics Anonymous with a Ranger tab was an "Airborne Ranger".
Now the 75th boys might look down on you and give you shite for not being in a "Ranger" unit like I may have for someone with an Airborne tab in a leg unit but that is just part of the perceived unit hierarchy in the Army.

Caroline Tabler told Salon in an email, "Senator Cotton graduated from Ranger school and is more of a Ranger than a Salon reporter like you will ever be."
I don't really care about this controversy, but I'd just like to point out what an exceptionally shitty response this is.
I'm confident that I'm a better soccer player than AT LEAST 6.5 billion of the world's 7.5 billion people - but I don't think I'd ever want somebody to say I'm "much closer to a world class soccer player than you'll ever be."
Had she already told someone "his dad could beat up your dad" that day?

The problem was Ventura's Playboy interview where he claimed to have "hunted man" in Vietnam when he never served with a team until after that. Very telling that he doesn't have a CAR.

I don't think a frick up such as yourself has any idea how tough Ranger school is

That is because he is one. His trident is just the same as any other SEAL.
