on tv the army ranger is the new navy seal, seems like every youngish cop on all of the cop shows is a former army ranger
when did seals replace green berets as the elite force in movies/tv? and why?

Cotton campaign ad placed in the Madison County Record in May 2012 identifies Cotton as a "Battle-Tested Leader" who "Volunteered to be an Army Ranger."

I volunteered to be in Delta Force. They didn't take me, but I volunteered. Where's my medal?

Do people really have a problem with someone who earned a "Ranger" tab being called an "Army Ranger?" I have never been exposed to this point of view before, and it seems wrong to me.

Sure, "anyone in the Army" is eligible to attend Ranger school. They've got to actually complete the training to get the tab, and the tab by any name is very prestigious.

That only makes him Ranger qualified.

Probably since 9/11. And it’s all about marketing.

Does he or JBE have any actual combat leadership experience? Or they just administrative officers?

Who’s that? Weird to see a Seal without a Combat Action Ribbon.

They were both Infantry Officers, JBE was a platoon leader and company commander but did not see combat.

Cotton was a platoon leader in Iraq in combat and then an Operations Officer of a Provisional Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan in combat.

Uh, hate to break it to whoever wrote this hit piece. He is a Ranger. Yes, there is a difference between tabbing up after Ranger school and being in one of the regiment's but he is a Ranger by completing the school and getting the tab.

Just like earning the Sniper tab, if you pass sniper training and get the tab you are an Army sniper. That doesn't mean you ever deployed as a sniper.

If Cotton ever claimed to be in a regiment then he has a problem.

Not even close. Whoever wrote this is splitting hairs to make Cotton look worse than he does.

DaNang Dick talked about combat in 'nam never having been there.

Cotton was a Ranger just never served in a Ranger Regiment.

Huge difference.

TigerDave Never forget
Youngest Navy Captain to serve in the last 100 years. The pic is before he was promoted to Capt. He was so awesomely great that they promoted him over the next rank of Commander.

The legendary TigerDave. (I think that was his name. Served with distinction on the OT. SEALs? Not so much.)
