The New Orleans Saints are behind on payments to the Superdome Commission that are needed for the ongoing renovation of the Caesars Superdome, potentially threatening to delay the project’s scheduled completion as the city readies to host the Super Bowl early next year.

Members of the commission, known formally as the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition district, or LSED, were informed at a board meeting Wednesday that the Saints haven’t paid their share of the massive renovation project since December, and currently owe $11.5 million to the commission, which has been covering the bills to date.

But an estimated $58 million worth of work remains, Commission staff said, of which the Saints will ultimately be responsible for $41 million. Evan Holmes, general manager for ASM Global, which operates the Superdome on behalf of the Commission, said it won't be able to cover the full tab.

Wouldn’t shock me what so ever if the saints eventually leave New Orleans due to financial problems like this.

Whether that is to a new city all together with new branding or just to a nearby city like Metairie or Slidell. Many teams across pro sports don’t play in the city that’s in their name for various reasons. You’re better off just having them in the metro area than losing them all together.

That’s what happens when someone owns the team and their only qualifications were secretary and interior designer.

So a team worth billions can't pony up 44 million? Bullshite!

Almost happened after Katrina. Honestly with the amount of Louisiana transplants in Tx, this might work. I could also see the city of San Antonio really handling this well. They support the Spurs extremely well. SA is a great host city and is great with hospitality. Something Nola used to be known for.

They could easily take over that central and south Texas market. I’m sure Jerry and McNair wouldn’t love this.

New Orleans was a very different city when they got the Saints. And San Antonio is a very different and huge city now.

Losing the Saints would be a major mistake. The effect it would have on the city would be epic. The tourism sucks because of the rampant crime going n everywhere and that city would not recover from losing the Saints.

A morally bankrupt organization with a stupidly low-football IQ fanbase has trouble with financial iliteracy.

I am shocked.

Complete the package and send 'em to Salt Lake City. The Mormons will dig "Utah Saints", and they have lots of that Marriot money.

Crime in New Orleans has returned to pre covid levels, which were themselves much much much lower than in prior decades.
