The way I see it is this.
Buying local products from local businesses makes my dollar go significantly further to support a quality of life for myself and those around me in my community than buying the cheapest shite I can find on the internet.
I am not only contributing more money to the local economy because it stays here and exchanges hands more and every time it exchanges hands its taxed to fund my local infrastructure, but it also creates more jobs, pays for more local jobs, and keeps the wealth in my state rather than leaving to pay for shite in other states where the money goes to when I give it away so carelessly.
When I eat at a locally owned restaurant for example that buys say local seafood and produce and does good food, I am not only supporting that restaurant and a local food scene, but I am also supporting our local seafood industry, farmers, and my local economy, and all the jobs, wealth and potentially more jobs and wealth that it creates/supports. Conversely, frequenting a national chain restaurant that does not buy local seafood or produce nets me and my state and community very very very little by comparison, and does absolutely nothing to promote a local food scene.
It’s a no brainer or me since I live HERE, and not THERE.

Except that when Amazon drives away competition it will then be able to raise prices.
lol what? you realize there are lots of suppliers undercutting each others prices on products on amazon right?
amazon is just the storefront/distribution part and they take a cut

Yep, seeing this here. One local grocery Mom/Pop store shot up on everything. Used to shop there all the time due to the fact I know these people real good. Got to the point when eggs started selling at $3.99 a doz and a bread at $3.99, I said I will fight Walmart
You sure it is not because of EBT cardholders shopping there? A lot of local "Mom/Pop" stores cater to folks who don't have transportation or don't care because Uncle Sam (the taxpayer) is paying for those $3.99 dz eggs.

This pisses me off. An example is ON creatine. I can get it about 25% cheaper on Amazon with same day shipping than I can get it in my local store. I ask if they price match and they say no. Okay motherfricker you’ve lost all revenue from me.
Local businesses inflating their margins and/or just terrible business practices don’t shame me into buying from them. If I can get the exact same item online at a greater value frick local business.
This shows how little you understand the process of wholesale bulk buying vs small purchase distribution (AG etc...)
Ex: Price per bottle $50
Price per 1,000 bottles $30
Amazon paid almost half for that bottle, so of course they will be 25% cheaper. If you want the better price, that's understandable, but saying it's due to locals trying to "inflate margins", just shows your lack of understanding when it comes to business.

Will only grow more powerful after Covid. Im starting to get to a point where I'm OK with higher prices from the local guy.
Completely agree.
For that 10-15%, I think about the money circulating through my own community to support better jobs, local tax base, not having another empty abandoned building in town etc. . .
Everyone can't afford to always choose the local shop and USA (or fair competitor) made product.
However, I think those that can are getting a better return for their investment than most other ways they'd spend the money.

If that's how you feel: you deserve to suffer under Communism.
Not the diluted collective-good inspired systems found in nice places, and not even USSR communism. You deserve the shitty, 3rd world, failed stated kind.
You're pissing all over the small, local businesses for your own short sighted-selfishness. We need better thinkers than you!

I’ve never seen that. (Not saying it’s untrue!) Calandros, Robert, etc all have signs saying they do not accept EBT

Well then the efficiency of the markets have worked.
By all means order from Amazon. I choose to support local when I can because I like the convenience of being able to get something same day

In addition to this, Amazon can sell at much lower margins because they are selling millions of them.

There is a balance and the variables include price, convenience, and after-sale support.
I remember years back I wanted a Nikon 300mm f4. Sold for around $1050 online. The only camera shop in town wanted around $1450. Quite the difference so I made an offer of $1250, thinking that was pretty fair. I'd be paying a couple hundred extra for the convenience of having it then and there.
The guy basically laughed at me. I laughed a year later when he shut down.

Amazon can offer their products cheaper because they cut deals with manufacturers. Mom and pop can’t cut a deal and can’t match the price without losing money.
Shopping local is supporting others in your community over supporting Jeff Bezos. I don’t think there’s been any inclination that it’s cheaper or even the same price.

you can't fly to another state for lower prices?

I rarely shop A because of price. Usually because of selection, availability or quality of the product. I live in Jackson, Ms. That means alot of crap I can't buy here that I could buy in Miami or Dallas.
I went to the "local" shoe store to get special tennis shoes I have to wear by New Balance. It was Tuesday. She said they didn't have them in stock and would have to order but oh, they wouldn't order until Monday and then it could take 1-3 weeks to come in. I raised hell and said if they weren't ordered within a couple of days, I was going to Amazon.
Told them if they wanted us to shop local, then they needed to tighten up on something simple as ordering a product. The old days of ordering once or twice a month and then waiting a long time are over.
They ordered the shoes that week.
