A sheriff's LT and a long-tenured school teacher would have likely passed the screening just as easily. Hell, that's the kind of couple society hopes would adopt kids.
But, if they find out that family services failed to look at all the evidence, ignored tips about their conduct, didn't do follow-up interviews with the kids periodically, this hole could get a lot, lot deeper.
Meanwhile any random man and woman can meet up, mash their genitals together to dump semen into a uterus, wait 9 months and then bam, they walk out of the hospital full blown brand new parents of a whole arse baby with a birth certificate that has their names as parents on it with no questions asked.
Amazing.

We are talking about a school teacher and the head of the sheriffs department SWAT Team, that had 4 adopted kids. It’s not like they were in hiding

but the kids were adopted with a different husband who isn't under investigation. that's why i think this is primarily on the guy's shoulders

In talking with someone in the LEO community there were some red flags about the guy being a super perv but no one had any idea that this was going on.
Its hard to fathom anyone in his department knew about this and did nothing. I know cops get a wrap about the blue wall but when kids are involved in something like this that blue wall comes down quick.

DTL wasn't a loner. and priests are interacting with the community daily.
I don't know why you would think a teacher and a cop would be on anyone's radar if they kept their deviant behavior private.

What seemed reasonable Tuesday might not seem so reasonable today. I can't fault them for failing to anticipate jizz-encrusted cupcakes. But now we all unfortunately know a little more about the world.

My wife went on a field trip with my youngest daughter today and said she couldn't bring anything peanut related. I told her I think the schools are about to update what can't be brought to school and school functions. She asked why and when I told her this story she said our kids are never eating anything brought to school by other again.

the kids were adopted in her previous marriage and that husband is, apparently, free and clear of these allegations
