Perfectly said. OP you don’t have a wife or kids. Your family if you want one has to live it also, and you are also mostly likely very young. I wouldn’t be opposed to it, I went to Del Rio HS my sophomore year: 87% Hispanic and I rode the bus from the AF base with 12 of the 17 blacks in a school of 3000 students 10-12th grade. I enjoyed many parts, I hated some parts.
I agree with the others that say you need to spend time doing it as an adult first. Especially before bringing a wife there.

I made this choice 8 years ago. I bailed after 6 years. I loved it but hated it. I am only about three hours from there now and could go anytime I want with a home to stay in. Only go for special occasions. It just was to small for me personally the cons outweighed the positives. I am happy being able to go when I want to escape.

How far is it from a grocery, hardware, feed store?
And do you know how to cook? You'll be doing a lot of it

I would absolutely do that if I didn't have a family.
I could easily get a 2 weeks on 2 weeks off travel gig in the industry I am in now. Only down side is for the 2 weeks I'm away, I'd need someone reliable to keep tabs on the house.
Last thing you want to do is leave a habitable structure unoccupied near the border. Those coyotes (Hispanic not furry) will frick up a good pit stop in a heartbeat.

The ranch is about 20 mins or so from all that. If I just lived in town it has all of those things I’m pretty sure so not a big issue. But yeah I would definitely need to get better at cooking…

If things don’t work out with the girl I’m dating then I will probably try to find a wife that is from the area so she would know what to expect. Not sure many city girls would like living there

We could get all the way across town in 15 minutes. No alcohol on Sunday. Every store other than Walmart, tractor supply, Publix, and some other chain restaurants and such were closed Sunday and Monday. Going to be a rough week there because of the storm. Going to be a huge clean up. Lots of longleafs.

If I lived on the ranch itself I would pretty much have to work from home, find a job in the small town or drive an hour to a bigger town that somebody mentioned earlier. I would probably have to be an accountant for a small company or a real estate agent or some other office job that exists in small towns.
Living in the town nearby would give me more options, I could commute to a small city.
I would love to work cattle but I don’t think it is that viable anymore and probably even less so in a decade

Most of the anglo people from south texas are part Hispanic, and most of the Hispanic people are part white if they have been living here since the 1800s (not talking about Spanish but Anglo)

I watched a YouTube video about some family that owns a HUGE ranch in eastern Colorado. One of the sons moved back after college. Basically no young women in town. His sister was living in Boulder and told some girl something like “hey my brother lives on a county of a few hundred people”. Brother marries the girl (I doubt all the money hurt his chances).

I would consider that a really good set up. I would pick living in a a small town over the city any day. As long as you are within driving distance from things to do (no more than 1.5hr out), its worth the drive to go do those things than to have to live in a city to be close to them.
If you can live somewhere where you know many of the people who live there, you have the necessities available.. IMO that's as good as it gets.

Not really - my dad’s family is not Hispanic at all - and they moved to Texas from Mississippi to pick cotton in the 1800s

I guess it depends on the area. All the Anglos I know from Laredo and the surrounding areas (most of them seem to have moved to San Antonio in the past 20-30 years) are part Hispanic.

The question is- do you have a train station nearby to drop off anyone that gets out of hand?

My girlfriend likes small towns but she grew up in the south and doesn’t seem to like texas all that much.
I have friends in Laredo corpus and San Antonio so I could try to find girls on the weekends when I visit them. Or try to get one of the locals to introduce me to a relative I guess.
That’s a cool story though.
