Is that the area south of Perkins before the overpass?
I'm pretty sick of all the BR hate that goes on here. I have a nice house in a nice neighborhood, get to/from work within 20 minutes. Traffic sucks, but I know when/where to avoid. Not like I'm driving to Prairieville or anything.
Can't send the kids to public school, but that seems to be expected from people my age. Most of my friends went to private school anyway, and I expect almost every single one of them to send their kids to private schools.
Anyway, I think over the past 10-15 years, BR has definitely come along way. Hopefully the administration of the city wont do too much to screw up the good things that have been built or new possibilities.

You've got Baton Rouge Blues Festival.
same weekend as Strawberry and French Quarter fest. Either of those are way better than Blues Fest

You've got Louie's hash browns.
You've got the Chimes and its beer selection.
You've got the Louisiana Book Festival.
You've got Tony's Seafood.
You've got LSU and all that entails
You've got Southern and all that entails.
You've got neighborhoods like Spanish Town, Beauregard Town, the Garden District, Capitol Heights, Ogden Park, Poets & Philosophers, Kenilworth, Southdowns, etc.
You've got a stable economy, because of state government, the universities, the chemical plants and the hospitals.
So you're used to things mentioned and have no clue that other, better, safer areas could possible have good eateries, festivals and traditions like you mentioned?

Same. I'm about to google Poets & Philosophers.

What part of New Orleans traffic is bad? I'm genuinely curious where you are driving that you consider it bad. I live uptown and can get to any part of the city in less than 20 minutes.

1. Traffic sucks, but if you live in the Garden District or Mid City and work around downtown, LSU, or at Exxon, it's very manageable. Live close to work and it's a breeze, whodathunkit?
2. Schools suck, but they suck in pretty much every city the same size or larger than BR. That's pretty much a given in most any city.
3. Crime is awful, especially property crime, but it's once again no better in the places most BR detractors hold up as better places to live (New Orleans, Atlanta, & Houston). I really do wish this was better.
4. There is culture here in addition to cultcha. You'd realize that if you left your cul-de-sac every once in a while. There's a lot of charm in Mid City, The Garden District, Bouregard Town, Spanish Town, etc. Nearly every weekend, there's some kind of festival. There is actually a lively original music, arts, and entertainment scene around town if you know where to look, you just have to, you know, leave your suburban cul-de-sac.
5. The government is abysmal, but outside of the reign of Kip, it always has been. I really wish this wasn't the case.
BR has a lot of problems, but people often miss that there's a lot of good there too despite those problems. Unfortunately, it's only "edgy" to bitch and moan about how everything sucks. God forbid we embrace our home and enjoy it for what it is while trying to better it.

5:00 traffic in Uptown is pretty bad at times, but most of that is due to construction. Most of the bad traffic is in Metairie. NOLA's problem is that the streets are impassable due to excessive potholes, not that there's not enough capacity or redundancy. BR's problem is a lack of redundancy and capacity, not impassability due to potholes. BR's bumpiest major street (Government Street) would be one of the smoother ones in New Orleans.

Have you been in Houston, Atlanta, Nashville's traffic around 5:00 pm? Exponentially worse than any part of New Orleans at 5:00 pm. At least you can move in New Orleans. I have never been in real stand still traffic in New Orleans outside an event.

The main bottle neck is at I10 and veterans once you past that it is usually opens up due to the extra lane on the left.

This is true.
