Terrible ribs? You need to quit eating at Rendezvous.

Memphis and it ain't even close. Well, not Memphis, but Germantown/Desoto County/Collierville/Arlington. But yeah... the Memphis area.

Memphis. Not remotely close.

The vicinity it is to the mountains and other cool places. Plus you don't have to worry about hurricanes.

In what terms? I live in this area and Memphis proper is a shithole with a few ok spots.

While both are crime-ridden hellholes, my answer is Memphis for the reasons that Tennessee is a better place to live than Louisiana. New Orleans is more fun though, so there’s that.

NOLA definitely has more cool things to do. They are both very dangerous. If you are allowing me to live in suburbs I’d probably take NOLA. Closer to the beach, better food culture, better historical sites. Less liberal white people in Memphis though.

New Orleans >>> Memphis
Memphis suburbs > Nola suburbs
Tennessee >>>>>> Louisiana

New Orleans proper is much better than Memphis proper, however, the suburbs are better in Memphis than they are in New Orleans. I would live in neither of these 2 cities but I do live outside of Memphis and it's very nice and very safe.

I wouldn't live in either place unless I had a never-ending supply of ammo

Spent a lot of time in both. Memphis, despite its shortcomings, is undeniably the better of the two.

Split the difference and you got jackson, MS.

No win situation.

I have lived close to both. I always thought it was cool that Memphis was an 8 hour drive to Chicago.
Who the frick is driving 8 (or 14) hours to Chicago and who the frick sub one bases livability on that singular metric?

They have these things called “airplanes” for trips from Memphis or NOLA to Chicago. And “rental cars” or “Über”.

Of course the MEM campus reminds one of a Call of Duty scene these days.

Hub to a flub, unless you’re a FedEx package.

tl/dr: Memphis is the worst parts of NOLA without the best parts of NOLA.

Two completely trashed out cities - small tourist areas surrounded by unlivable ghettos. frickin HARD pass.

Would have to default to the state they’re in. Tennessee gets my vote considering there is not one state more poorly run than Louisiana.

Nola IMO

Culturally it’s more aligned with my lifestyle. The only benefit for Memphis for me is easier access to deer hunting

Nola has better access to fishing
