Personally, I love to visit NO but if I had to choose between the two I'm going with Memphis. It's a very underrated place.

Memphis has better suburbs and weather and a better state. Memphis is obvious.

I've lived in one and spent a fair amount of time in the other for work. Both are very interesting for food and music, but (a) no comaprison NOLA; (b) either are failed cities and I'm kinda done with the failed city crap. I love being in the burbs now and leaving my stuff unlocked.

I have friends that have moved from Memphis to NOLA for work.

It doesn’t flow the other way, as far as I know.

I have lived close to both. I always thought it was cool that Memphis was an 8 hour drive to Chicago. Just closer to other big cities.

Memphis is better, but both will get you killed

If you're gonna hold a gun to my head (pun intended) and have to choose one city it's going to be New Orleans. The food and architecture are more interesting in NOLA. The correct answer would actually be neither.

Memphis is far more livable.

But I prefer New Orleans.

NOLA x 10. At least you have French Quarter, District, WW2 Museum, etc. Memphis has nothing, but Graceland and terrible ribs.

I lived in Nola for 10 years. Live in Burbs outside Memphis now. Better tax situation, insurance costs etc far better, public schools, central location, lots of positives. Now that I have kids I prefer Tennessee, but I lived at/near the coast nearly my entire life, miss that aspect.

I’ve lived in both.

At the time Memphis was way, way better. It had its crime but it was confined to certain areas and much of the city was safe. Unlike NOLA.

Times have changed and neither is a good place to live now. Several old friends have left Memphis.

The only people I know who like living on NO are lifers who will never leave no matter how bad it gets.
