There's no other explanation for pushing away customers like that
Have you ever been there? I seriously doubt they’re worried about running off customers over debit transactions. Maybe the owner is just tired
Of giving up a percentage of the total transaction and figures it’s worth it. Assuming they’re trying to evade taxes is a bit bold considering none of us really know the owner or anything about his business. Other than whatever half-assed, changing story someone posted on FB.
And I’d be curious to see if Mastercard addresses, let alone, enforces the TOS regarding fees or recouping them. As long as they’re making money, they probably don’t care.

When people push for cash it's often because they're dumb and don't mind losing out on business, or because they think the tax evasion will make up for it.
This. I am very familiar with the card processing game and I have never met a business owner who thought a service fee was a good idea that wasn't a complete moron.

I heard that they are weird about accepting credit cards so I have never been there. Sounds trashy AF.
Fleur de Lis did the same cash-only bullshite and it eventually bit them.
In 2022/2023 charging the customer for card payment is the hallmark of a trashy, dumbass business owner.

The person that posted it to FB changed it from $4 to 4% which is a significant difference and not nearly as bad. Still shady.
Anyone paying 4% for a credit card transaction is either too stupid to spend a few minutes on Google to find a 2.99% rate no questions asked or they're dicking their customers.
If you are paying north of 3.25% for VISA/MC in 2022, you were the sucker that made some salesman's Christmas extra special.

I have a small business and use chases free ability to accept debit and credit cards through my chase app. There’s still a 4%~ fee though that chase charges me on every transaction. So I pass that fee onto the customer if they insist on paying by card when I take check, cash, Zelle, Venmo, & cash app.
But according to some of you, I should lose 4% of the gross revenue off their bill because they insist on a card? Frick off. 4% on a $1000+ bill is significant. Don’t use a card or suck it up and pay the 4%
If you're being charged 4% to accept cards then you're having your arse handed to you.

Almost as bad as people who pay for a pack of gum with a credit card.
I know, tapping your card on the machine and walking out the door….SO trashy….

You know how you avoid this?
By not going to Linda’s.

6 pages of a bunch whiny bitches complaining about having to pay for their shitty fried chicken with cash. The horror.

What are Linda’s margins?
If she’s making 40%, 4% would’ve 10%.
I try to use cash at some small businesses.

It’s a fricking chicken place. Fast food. Bring cash you dweeb. You’re not buying a big screen TV. You’re paying < $20 for lunch.
Grow up and put some cash in your wallet.
There's a reason people don't like walking around with cash in their wallet.

I don't. I quit tipping, except for actual sit down meals.
Every single place you walk into now begs for tips. Done with it, and I'm perfectly fine with it.

Grow up and put a $20 in your pocket. If that’s too challenging for you, stay home and let your mother make you a PB&J.
What's funny is children pay with cash, adults use cards.
Sounds like people will avoid the place, so your sentiment is taken.
Win win.

I understand that the convenience store making a $3 sale has smaller margins and thus wants to force either a larger transaction or straight cash.
But it's a common occurance thes stores can't break a $20 or give you correct change due to them not stocking cash and coin.

I get it. The business is covering the transaction fee.
The companies that give them the swipe machines charge the business a fee, so they are just covering that with each swipe.

I fail to see the problem here. It's not tax evasion or some other under the table scam...it's a small business trying not to lose a percentage (although small) of it's sales.
They can't just increase their prices 2% as the fee would increase on that increase. What percentage increase would be needed to break even on the original fee?
Why is this even an issue?
