Letting the car warm up before taking off, like 20 secs

Am I wrong to still think after you start the car you should wait about 20 seconds before putting into gear and taking off?
Wife has a car that is about 2 years old and within 2 secs of turning the car on she takes off.
I ask her to just wait about 10-20 secs and she never does.

warm up is more of a generic word. I know its about oil circulation.

If it is cold enough where it is necessary to let the car warm up, I'm usually outside scraping ice off the windows anyways.

I usually wait longer than that. My vehicle has a tachometer and when I start it up, it idles at about 1000-1200 rpms immediately. Within a minute or so, it drops down to about 700. That's about what it normally idles at once it's been running for a while also.

I did that this morning in my ride but typically wait until its idling around 1k rpm.

If you’re up north and it’s below freezing, you need to let your car warm up for a second.

To me, starting the car and driving immediately is like going in dry without telling your partner. Gotta let the earl flow for a little bit.
