During dinner hours this should be the rule at all restaurants. The one thing I agree with Europeans about, dinner out is for adults, take your kids to McDonalds, or leave them with a sitter.

We generally don't allow devices at restaurants but there are times when the food took too long to come out or we are enjoying visiting with adult friends that we will hand over the phone to our two-year old while we are finishing up.

We never had to do that with our oldest because she was so very good in restaurants from the time she was a baby. She would color quietly and took her time eating and then would go back to coloring. She has always been very good at keeping herself busy without constant adult interaction. Our youngest will saturate color the kids menu, scarf down her food and want to run around long before we are done. She is one that requires a ton of adult interaction or she starts getting into things she shouldn't. We hope she mellows out as she gets older but she is a handful right now and we will do whatever it takes to manage the here and now.

I've learned a long time ago not to nit pick how other people parent their kids. Especially if they are being quiet and sitting still in a restaurant. As soon as I do, that's when my overexhausted 5yo has a melt down in the middle of public. Now I don't let my kid play on a phone or ipad all day either, not even in the deer stand, but I definitely don't judge people that do. Sometimes you have to pick your battles, and the middle of a crowded restaurant is not the best venue.

You obviously don’t have kids or you have freakishly good kids. I always said I wouldn’t do that when I had kids. Well that went out the window when we couldn’t even eat a good meal without my kid going nuts.

If you’re engaging in conversation with your kids throughout an entire dinner, they’re obviously past the age where they require something to keep them busy. Thus, you can’t criticize someone that keeps they’re 3 year old busy with an iPad, just because your 8 year old can behave him/herself at a table.

As much as I agree that it’s not good to do every time at dinner. I 100% see how and why people do it.

OP definitely doesn’t have young kids.

I spend 2 hours everyday in Houston traffic. Better believe I'm posting at a red light right now.

ETA: You can only order your food, try and control your kids for 10 minutes only to tell the waiter to pack it to go, so many times. I now sling that ipad faster than Doc Holliday. I'm doing you a favor, trust me!

My son is autistic. All the noises of the restaurant can overwhelm him and cause him to freak out. His tablet let's him focus on one thing and he's able to come with us. Is that ok with you? We can stop if it causes too much stress for you to handle. Stop eyeing up kids in restaurants Jerry Sandusky.

I know many have said it already, but you're full of shite. Kids aren't little adults. They act out for no reason sometimes, even with the best parenting. Acting like your kids never have tantrums just lets everyone know you're completely full of shite

Wow, bad parent alert.

Apparently some people have broken sarcasm meters this morning.

Really would like to know why most people (and yes, probably most of you) allow your kids to bury themselves in iPads or iPhones at the dinner table. Is interacting with your kid too much for you to handle?

I can tell you must be married with three kids and eat out 4 times a week.

I think people should spend more time minding their own business.

It's the same exact idea though. Giving them something to occupy their time so they're quite and don't require constant monitoring.
