But what did our parents do back in the 80's and 90's when no such devices existed?

Are our generation just worse parents?
No, they just gave us other things to occupy us that wasn't electronics.

Mine was Hot Wheels. I remember bringing Hot Wheels to restaurants and playing with them. How's that different than a tablet? Hell, how are the crayons with games/puzzles restaurants give kids different than tablets? They all act to keep the kid occupied as kids aren't exactly known to be able to sit in 1 place for 1-2 hours and just talk.

Cmon Shel!

Using your example, a Hot Wheels could be literally anything you imagined. Angry Birds or equivalent games do no such thing. Not only that, a Hot Wheels is also smaller!

It's crazy because I literally work on technology 24/7, but I don't think a kids imagination is sparked from a tablet.

Idk maybe im getting old

Less inclined to be addicted to a crayon or a puzzle.

I don't think my Mom was giving me Hot Wheels because it sparked my imagination, I'm sure it was to keep me cool during the restaurant stay.

So do you mess around on your phone/tablet/laptop or steer clear in favor of crossword puzzles nowadays?

I don't get this irrational fear people have of these devices. It's ok for a kid to look at a tablet here and there. They're utilizing them at school almost daily, it's good for them to have exposure to tablets.

And to clarify, we're talking about the OP simply talking about kids having tablets at a restaurant...not something that can actually be a problem which are kids just playing these games 24/7 nonstop and not actually doing anything else. 2 different things.

Really would like to know why most people (and yes, probably most of you) allow your kids to bury themselves in iPads or iPhones at the dinner table. Is interacting with your kid too much for you to handle?

My advice? Don't judge and just go on about your day.

Maybe the parents are just stressed as shite and just want some peace and quiet while they eat. You shouldn't let the 15 minutes of exposure that you have to that family shape your entire opinion about them.

What? This is the OT. If you don't parent your kids they way I do mine then you're a horrible parent and should probably be lynched.

For houma sapien, displaced, and all other anti-electronics ever parents (likely not parents at all, but that is another issue)

Do you ever give your children cookies? Or ice cream?

I would assume no, because why would you give them something that is bad for them and an unnecessary food

I am assuming you do not let them play any games either, because that is also unnecessary and not as useful as making them read or study

When today's 3 year olds are coding complex scripts at the age of 10, I'm going to laugh at people like the OP.

The truth is, I do not like to give my 2 year old my phone. However, for long meals, or other situations in which we will have to make him be still, I do if he was behaving well before.

The funny thing is, in the off chance that a parent has a 2 or 3 year old who will actually sit quietly for 1-2 hours during a meal(I guess it's possible, certainly not likely) that parent probably is taking credit for how good they are when they don't have a darn thing to do with it, not at that young of an age at least.

The idea of "my 2-3 year old has been taught to not throw tantrums in public" ...yea, ok buddy.

I will BOOM him by responding

"Well, if I saw this, I would be safe to make a thread saying you are what is wrong with parents in America because you only stuff your kids with sugary treats because you cant actually parent and make them eat healthy. It is your fault american kids are getting fatter"

And he will melt

pReachy with an r. Your whole post history is based on virtue signaling and calling people trashy and poor. It could be a schtick or in jest, but your tone is too somber. As evidenced by this...
