I also suggest that you check the dads knuckles from across applebees before you step up.

Actually, several restaurants back then would not allow kids in the restaurant under a certain age.

During dinner hours this should be the rule at all restaurants. The one thing I agree with Europeans about, dinner out is for adults, take your kids to McDonalds, or leave them with a sitter.

So in other words it's a way for parents who are bad at parenting to keep their kids quiet? Got it.

I've got 2 youngins and they behave just fine at the table. No electronics, just conversation. I don't understand what's so hard about this

This seems to reinforce the notion that posting on the OT was the correct choice.

I used to think the exact same thing.... until I had two kids under two. The iPhone is a special prize. The oldest only gets it during “emergencies” like when we want to eat one fricking meal in peace (usually it’s cold by then, after feeding the kids theirs...) or when I need to talk to their doctor or something similar. Everyone needs to realize that you’re only seeing a snapshot of someone’s life out in public... quit being so judgmental.

What if your kid isn't talking yet? Seems like that would be a dull conversation.

My kids don't play on iPads at restaurants or at the table at home. Only exception is we've got a local restaurant called the Feathered Cow that has a sports bar theme going that has handheld iPad game things for the kids. Something different that they enjoy.

I still do this.

My kids don't play with electronics at all. Ever.

Can one of y'all hand me that ladder over there so I can get off my horse?

My kid likes to eat the colors. He hasn't eaten a phone or tablet yet.

How old are they? The biggest TV junkies I know had parents who didn’t let them watch as kids.

Really would like to know why most people (and yes, probably most of you) allow your kids to bury themselves in iPads or iPhones at the dinner table. Is interacting with your kid too much for you to handle?

Maybe trying to be courteous to other guests.

I mean if that’s how they choose to raise their kids why do I need to care?

Because these fricked up kids become fricked up adults and we're going to have to deal with them at some point. This is the future voting public

That’s exactly what it is. Like I said, it’s outlet for parents who don’t want to have to parent.

Y’all really think that distracting kids at restaurants is a new phenomenon?
