I'll see you pediatrician and raise you one of the top rated pediatric neurologist in BR, who's my SIL. She, too, allows her child to be plugged in at restaurants and sees no harm in it.

Let me also clarify that, while we're sitting around waiting for the food to come, they're not plugged in. But after the foods arrived and they've eaten, I hand over the phone or iPad.

My friend is a pediatrician and he calls iPads "brain melters" because all the kids he diagnoses with brain diseases like adhd, asburgers, etc all sit with their faces glued to an iPad

I would find a new doctor, and maybe a new friend if he's suggesting what I think he is.

I feel the worst for the people with kids on here that don't go to church. It's ok to damn yourself but don't bring the kid to hell with you

I never did it too often, I always figured if you are out to eat you should be able to talk to your siblings, talk to you parents, eat your food, sit and be quiet for 30 minutes or so.

It was my stance, right or wrong, I dont care how others raise their kids though. I like to think it helps them be confident and social, and also to feel less special. They are expected to behave like human beings, within reason of course. I dont go out for lengthy meals or to restaurants where they cant chatter and giggle a little bit.

Ought to be a short service. Or a VERY long one.

When you eat quinoa you drive up the price of staple food for people in the Andes which forces them into cocaine manufacturing to make ends meet

My kids only read on handheld electronic devices, no game playing or video watching, because I care about them.
We also probably get about 10 hours max of tv viewing together as a family. Black and white (screen color, not people) tv shows, Wheel of Fortune, and sports.
It’s an enchanted existence.

Well, you are preachy. You could sweep chimneys from the back of that horse you're on. And I associate that with trashy people. That's all I got.

Constantly handing young kids iPads and iPhones is being proven to make them into retards.

Bad idea.

Not 1/100th as upset as this guy:

These crap parents are too scared to spank their children, so they give them iPads. Too scared to take responsibility of training a child, so they give them iPads. Spanking does not mean beat your child or scare them to death. It doesn't have to hurt all that much, it's just a good reminder. Otherwise that would be abuse. But spanking actually works. Pussies.

Oh wait, that was you. Funny how that works. Still no self awareness..

You're right no one will pay attention to that post...because it's talking about something different than your whiny OP.

almost as trashy as having kids in front of a screen for 3-5 hours a day.

Really would like to know why most people (and yes, probably most of you) allow your kids to bury themselves in iPads or iPhones at the dinner table. Is interacting with your kid too much for you to handle?

When I was growing up in the 80's, instead of iPads, we would just bring a stack of quarters and play Centipede until the food came out. Is that any different?

I dont. We go eat as a family.

Its helped us with their attention spans. We can drive 4 hours in a van and they don't need movies and shite and instead interact and play games with each other.

frick this whip out a screened babysitter shite.

Its ruining your children. Reducing coping abilities as well as killing their social interactions.

There is a time and place for that shite and it damn sure isn't at a family meal at a restaurant.

But what did our parents do back in the 80's and 90's when no such devices existed?

Are our generation just worse parents?
