Are they working to resolve the issue that caused them to move in in the first place?

Are they good guests? Do they abide by guest right? Are they chipping in?

Details? Are they staying in guest room?
Are they being a nuisance? Why are they there? Helping out?

I guess if you want to assuage the guilt offer 'em a week at a hotel.

Sister and BIl stayed with us while she got her master's down here for a year and paid rent of only 500. Loved having them.

MIL stayed with us and wanted to watch our kids while FIL went on a disaster job in New York for about a year and a half. Never had an issue. She would just go to get room and give us our time when we got home.

My Parents stayed with us for 3 months after a hurricane flooded their house. Turned me into a closet drinker... I literally would go sit in my closet and drink so I wouldn’t have to hear her say “wow your drinking again”.

Should’ve put your foot down and said no. He DGAF about you or your wife until he needed help

That’s tough. I feel for you. I’m sure that adds stress to everyone’s life.
Hopefully you can find some way to deal with it; don’t want to do permanent damage to your home life.

Our son & dil stayed about 2 months after they both got out of the Army. Wasn’t too bad but we were glad when they left, & they were too.

My FIL is living with us now, he's 83. It's not bad, but he's in decent health right now and can take care of himself.

Stop being an arse. They are family. Knock 10% off the rent you are charging them.

When I took an on call spot in Dallas/FtW I stayed with sis's family at their insistence. That lasted all of 2 weeks when the On Call became Dept. Manager and staying over would mean going from 1-2 nights/weeks to every day with me coming/going all hours of the night to tend to emergencies.

No, my MIL was in my house the whole time. A trailer in the back would have been paradise, compared to what I went thru.

Ever have a brother, sister or mother in law and their family stay with you due to trouble (flooding, tough financial times, home damage)?

No none of us in the Baton Rouge area have ever done this before.
