Dr. Andrew Lee, Nuero Opthalmologist in Houston. I'd recommend going see him. I have nerve damage in both of my eyes.

I’m very sorry you are going through this. I’m also dealing with an eye issue and it his is my fourth week of missing work. I’m still receiving 100% pay and have coworkers covering for me, but it sucks. Still don’t know if I will get vision back in one of my eyes.

Do what the doctor says and God will take care of the rest.

I’ve been legally blind since birth. It runs in my family, but I have the worst case of it out of 3 cousins. I went through what was called patch therapy, where I would wear a patch on one eye all day and then rotate the next. I did it for a little over year, because I wouldn’t have been able to drive either. Because of that, I am able to drive some 17-18 years later. Not sure if surgery is possible for you, I’m still not eligible for cornea surgery just yet. Praying for you that you find a solid doctor like I did and that this doesn’t defeat you. God bless.

My wife was diagnosed with myopic degeneration about 2016 and by 2021 her vision had gotten so bad she had to stop driving. It is a very devastating feeling when you lose the independence of walking out the door, hopping in the car and driving where you need to go.
Only advice I can offer is to blame yourself for something medical that is out of your control, seek the very best medical help available ASAP and pray.

Never heard of patch therapy but will definitely ask the dr about it. Surgery has not been mentioned but the dr wants to find the cause before deciding my options. Going through genetic testing now and have a CAT scan scheduled so hopefully that will atleast give some answers. Thank you very much for the encouragement though. It has indeed been a very stressful and draining few months

Hope that among your medical team you have a good neuro-opthalmologist whose training combines neurology and vision and not just regular ophthalmologists and retina specialists. I had some vision loss, and only had it correctly diagnosed when referred to a n-o. The bad news was that it was permanent. The great news was that it wasn't progressive. Good Luck.

F*ck man, prayers.

I hope it’s something fixable.

Surgery won't be an option with nerve damage. The key is to stop progression only. There are some potentials in stem cell research to help with nerve regeneration, but nothing on the horizon yet.

Ok ot, i need some advice. Im 40 and have recently been told I am "borderline" legally blind and not legal to drive. I have noticed my vision take a significant dive in the last year or so but honestly was hoping it was just age related vision loss. I have now seen 4 specialist and now have found out that my optic nerve is severely affected. Currently going through testing to find out the cause but now i have no clue what to do as far as work since my job requires heavy equipment use. My wife(no pics) luckily has a stable job but honestly i now feel like a worthless pos knowing i wont be able to continue working/driving. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

sorry for your situation. I would say the first thing you need to do is get disability. do you have any woodworking or welding skills? maybe you can setup a shop at your house and build things and sell to the public.

Get all the facts so you can make healthy decisions.
What’s the cause… can you fix it… etc
Just stay the course until you get answers

Considering your particular situation, I hope that ain't the only reason you're comfy with her.

Contact your local blind services association. Also, if you don’t already have an iPhone, get one. My dad has gone blind and both of these make a big difference.

Find a hobby, job, friend that can get you out of the house daily. You need to keep moving and keep learning to adapt. It will be challenging, but will serve you well.

No just trying to lighten the mood i guess. To be fair, she is actually a little blurry so may not be as good looking as i think. Seriously though, i am comfortable with her knowledge and trusting her diagnosis.

Do you not have long-term disability?

If you’ve been with a state university for 20 years and this renders you disabled, they maybe have disability retirement as part of their retirement system.
