Auto industry icon Lee Iacocca -- forever connected to the Ford Mustang and former chairman of Chrysler -- has died ... according to a family source.
A family member tells TMZ Iacocca passed away, but could not provide any further detail.
Iacocca is credited with saving Chrysler from bankruptcy back in the 1980s ... and he's often referred to as the father of the legendary Ford Mustang. While he was always known within the auto industry ... he became a household name across America when he starred in a series of TV advertisements for Chrysler.

Great icon of corporate America there.
RIP
Chrysler was dead until he took over. Really should have died but he had the wherewithal to keep it afloat.

Always in threes. Walton, Iaococca. Who's next?

I don't think anyone could turn around Chrysler today in that same situation. The 2008 bailout was much different than the 70's. Iacocca muscled that company back.

I read his book in high school. It was pretty good.

Woah. That sucks. I remember my grandpa had his book in the 70's/80's. Sometime in the 2000's he was back on Chrysler commercials with Snoop Dogg.
Rip.
Rip.

I remember when lots of federal employees drove those damn K cars. I actually knew one person that bought one.

He was obviously very talented. To rescue Chrysler he force fed the K-car, in all of its variants, with its 2.2 liter piece of shite engine, on to the American public, and the public actually bought those ridiculous sardine can pieces of shite.
That takes talent.
That takes talent.

Was a bid deal back in the day, a household name. I hadn't heard that name in a while, and was surprised to hear that he had just died. If you had asked me I would have thought he checked out a while back.
