My brother in law lives in Tyler, we go visit every now and then not a bad place.

I will say this watch out for speed traps around the lakes, those bastards catch a lot of people for tickets around that area.

I don't know a lot about the area in general, but Tyler is a pretty closed society of old money oil and the have nots.

There isn't much in between.

yep, when is was stationed at Barksdale in the late 60's folks from Tyler town would be crawling all over the go-go joints on the Bossier Srip. Baw should just commute.

Where? My cousin moved to north of Dallas and property taxes and tolls caught him off guard. He loves it after he adjusted to the differences in cost and pace. Lots to do in Dallas

Tyler is a cool city. You won't miss Louisiana as much as you think.

don’t know a single person whose left who doesn’t acknowledge their quality of Life improved after the move. Sure they missed some aspects of life in state, but every single one of them said it was an improvement. And all say they didn’t realize how backwards La. is till they left and had a real comparison.

Very true. I recently moved to Florida, but I spent the last decade in Houston. I convinced one of my colleagues to leave Shreveport and relocate his family to Katy. They were very hesitant, but after the move, they could hardly stand to go home.

Things operate more efficiently. The schools are better. Better sports for their kids. Better kids for their friends to hang out with. There is more money, and things are thriving.

Tyler’s a great & growing area. I’m there often for work. It’s 1.5 hours from Dallas & has most amenities, decent places to eat, good schools. The major growth is to the South. The only problem with Tyler is the damn 323 Loop around city. Rush hour sucks cause there’s not really an intestate that goes through it or around it without traffic lights.

This right here. I lived in Baton Rouge, moved to Houston, then landed here in Florida. Love Florida, much more than Houston and Baton Rouge. But damn, HEB is where it’s at.

As someone who lived in Tyler for 5 years I can tell you right now baw live SOUTH of 323

I haven't been back in awhile since I moved to DFW but all the new money was going south of 323 and maybe even pushing more south of the new Toll Loop 49 (well was new at the time)

If you like if a little slower and green everywhere you will love it. Tons of little backroads to drive as well if you want the country vibe.

Weather is okay minus the occasional Tornado risk but thats Texas in general.

I took a job in Tyler last ten years before retiring… figured I would retire there…grew up in bossier and always like the piney texas area.

I looked all around a lot before picking up a house up there…depending on what you want and where you work .. nice neighborhoods in the city .. with standard suburban feel.. I looked out on the lakes also.. Tyler lake is nice and commute into town..but can be crowded on weekends … . Palestine is Hugh and a little more commute..another small private lake in town.. old money owns much of it but you can find something sometimes… lots of places with acreage and just out of town… I ended up in the azelea district and loved the feel of the area.. I lived on chilton because I could avoid the traffic on the loop and broadway ..5 minute commute to work…l Liked the historic architecture of the area..

Kids in school makes a difference because the azela district is associated with people that will go toward the private religious schools

When I retired I sold my house in Tyler and moved back to my house I had kept in katy texas.. Tyler did not offer what I decided I wanted in retirement…

Nice place to live and raise a family but it is hard core east texas hard fwiw…

The way I always describe Tyler is … the best thing about Tyler is stepping back in time….. the worst thing about Tyler is stepping back in time….

Ask any specific questions if you want.. I may be able to answer…

I live on one of the Lake Tyler's at an Arp address. It's a stones throw away from Tyler. You wouldn't want to set up in the real Arp but the lake is nice. But this lake front property is high. I lived here from 1990 until 2000 and decided to retire here a few years ago. If you boat and fish, you can find me at the house with the dock with all the underwater green lights. All the fishermen visit my dock at night anyway. It's popular.

Observations after moving:
- Texas is ground zero for freedom in the US
- Your net taxes are likely to be lower in Texas
- Politicians spend tax money more wisely in Texas
- Public education is better in Texas

- You can’t find a grocery store comparable to H-E-B anywhere else. If you enjoy cooking, you will never have a problem finding the ingredients you’re looking for
- You start to realize that the idea of Louisiana having the best food was a myth used to trap people in Louisiana. When you go back to visit, it’s the same as you will find in Texas
- the best thing about Louisiana is LSU football and baseball
- you encounter fewer thugs in Texas unless you start making bad decisions
- in Texas you have more access to entertainment options such as professional sports, concerts, and comedy

All true!
