This week, I have a final interview with my boss’s boss for a promotion. The job would require me to have my office in Tyler. Tx. I’m looking to move anywhere within 45 minutes of Tyler. I want my kids to finish the school year here so it wouldn’t be until the summer then we’d move.
From my performance review with my boss last week, I pretty much have the position unless I absolutely screw up on this interview.
Other than Tyler, I’m looking at the Lindale, Athens, Gladewater, Kilgore, Big Sandy, or Jacksonville areas.
What can the OT tell my about these areas? And for those that have left and moved to Texas, has your life significantly improved?

Although it's going to be better than where you're at now, Texas is a giant suburb

Not leaving Louisiana to find a job. It’s a promotion with my company. I like the company I’m at and want to retire with them, but I knew someday if I’d want a promotion, it would probably bring me to Texas. Just the way our region is aligned

My family has a house on Lake Tyler West near Whitehouse/New Chapel Hill. 10 years ago I’d say have fun in the middle of nowhere. Now, you can see the growth. It’s still not a big town, but there a lot more things to do and it’s more convenient. Should be a good move for you.

Holy hell the mud bugs are expensive out there

Well you came to the right place to ask. I’d venture to say probably 30% of everyone on this LSU themed board has left Louisiana for Texas.

Positives and negatives about both. All you will hear on here is the negatives about Louisiana. Life is what you make of it. Either you’re happy or you aren’t.

Oh no indeed. I’m one of the biggest advocates for leaving here. I can’t wait for the day I can get the frick out of here too.

I don’t know a single person whose left who doesn’t acknowledge their quality of
Life improved after the move. Sure they missed some aspects of life in state, but every single one of them said it was an improvement. And all say they didn’t realize how backwards La. is till they left and had a real comparison.

Congrats and good luck.

Hey can I ask you a favor? When you leave Louisiana, would you turn off the lights?

i have a place between van and ben wheeler. i would say in order for me: van, hideaway lake, lindale, lake palestine, bullard. personally i don’t care for lake tyler area. jacksonville can be a little rough at times. for schools, big sandy is not like the others. not being negative, but it is small. just remember traffic can be bad at times in tyler. the loop especially
