Does he really want to work for a company that encourages someone to screw over their old employer?

I don't think I would.....

Apparently he wasn't totally specific. It was a conversation in passing. The job wants him to start mid June but he is waiting on a bonus that will come around that time and doesn't want his current employer to swindle him out of a bonus if he says he is leaving. So the way the dates fall apparently he will only be able to give a couple of days. Not trying to be vague. Just needed more details. He is leaving construction industry for insurance industry

frick leaving a notice, that is bullshite. They can get rid of you without a notice whenever they want, you can leave whenever you want.

I wouldn't trust the company that has offered him a new job, and want allow him to give proper notice.

Ahh. That should be in your OP.

And he's going to burn the frick out of that bridge. There's no coming back back from quitting without notice the day youre handed a bonus check

Better check with state law on bonuses because that company could come back and sue him if there is law allowing this.

Well that changes things... yeah if he knows all of this ahead of time and doesn't tell them, that's pretty shitty and is without a doubt going to burn a bridge.

He also might not give a shite about burning said bridge.

He also might hate the insurance industry and want to go back to construction and realize he just massively screwed up.

He also might be incredibly successful at his new gig and never look back.

That's a whole different story. Not something I would generally recommend unless he's 100% certain, he won't need a letter of rec from the current employer or that a future employer wouldn't call the current employer for info. I don't give out info on past employees other than the verify they worked for me for the dates worked when there is bad blood. Otherwise, I might provide a glowing recommendation.

Depends on his current job roles and if someone else can fill in whether you burn a bridge. I would understand under reasonable conditions.

he needs to do what's best for him. the company wouldn't give him notice if they decided to let him go. if he thinks the bonus check is worth it and he won't need the reference in the future...then burn the bridge.
