It'll be paid for under Title 32 with Federal funds. Title 32 covers the Guard in their role as State militia as opposed to being part of the War Dept.

Cool.

It is still expensive, and the government doesn't make money.

we need military deployed in every city.

Lol. This isn’t war torn Africa or Eastern Europe. Some of you have absolutely delusional views of urban life in most of the Americans cities. I’m just a skinny whiteboy from Ioway, and I live urban, travel internationally 2-4x per year, been in dangerous ghettos in Latin America. Not a single major US city I haven’t walked around. I could tell all the stories about the times I faced danger in one minute. 20+ years of this

Agreed, but I haven't seen anyone make that argument.

This may sound all well and good, but these folks aren’t trained to perform LE. They’re ignorant to chain of evidence, aren’t taught to deescalate, and are wholly unfamiliar with LA law.

If the presence alone works, and the governor actually asked for help, we may see a decline in crime. That said, this is NOT what the military is supposed to be used for. Maybe you’re comfortable seeing tanks, camouflaged troops, and military weaponry roaming Main Street looking for “criminals”, I’m not.

The National Guard will help with maintaining some order, deterring major crimes in high crime areas, removing homeless, and cleaning up obvious blight.

The real game substantive game changer is the abundance of 1811/Federal Agents being sent into cities. Good cops being good cops and trusting life long instincts. This is what we should be hoping for more than the Guard if fighting violent crime is the objective.

Probably works better in NOLA. Have the guard out in the CBD and Quarter to increase safety and free up NOPD.

Not sure what they would do in the other cities since there aren't concentrated areas where their presence alone will make a difference.

If they deploy MPs to do actually police, it might not be a huge help since a lot of Guard MPs are LEOs and it will pull them from their regular police duties.

Maybe they could help with LSU or SU games, but a lot of LEOs depend on working the games to supplement their income.

Remember when people lost their shite over a domestic military exercise during the Obama administration? I remember. Now some of those same people are salivating over the concentration of federal power over law enforcement.

Why not declare martial law and suspend habeas corpus while you're at it. Also enact the Higgins Act while we're going full throttle.

Why go half way?
