Not anymore LMAO.
I was actually thinking about starting a thread about this a couple weeks ago but I figured it would be poorly received. In my experience, all lawyers do this.
It has no significance, social, legal, or otherwise. There was once a rule that "Esquire" denoted a gentleman (i.e. someone from a British family good enough to have a coat of arms) who didn't have another title (like "Sir" or "Doctor"). Clearly, that's fallen by the wayside.

I never put it on a piece of correspondence.

Today maybe but for many years it did mean a barred attorney in the legal profession. Over the years I have read several state Supreme Court cases where the use of esquire has been used against someone charged with the unlicensed practice of law. It was never the sole factor but was used in conjunction with other facts.

Monsters. They have zero respect for the law or human life.

In similar threads in the past I have said that I have instructed my secretary not to use "Esq." after my name in correspondence or pleadings. I know that I am a lawyer, my clients know that I am a lawyer, and my opponents know that I am a lawyer.
I do have my secretary use "Esq." in the salutation of a letter that I write to another lawyer or when I name them in a certificate of service or other pleading.
However, since the last thread on this topic I have re-thought my position after having practiced law for more than 40 years. I now sign my name with "Esq." in inter-office memos. An abbreviated signature that I am now using on correspondence and pleadings is:
IonaTiger, Esq., Attorney and Counselor at Law and at Large, B.A., J.D., LMNOP, PIIHB, ESPN, LSMFT, HNWIC, HMFWIC

My doctor refers to a colonoscopy as "the lawyer's examination".

Lawyers should call themselves Dr.
Just like professors for have Education doctorates expect to be called Dr.

The esquire in the sig is very helpful. Much like neck tattoos or Confederate flag stickers, it marks the morons who you should avoid. It’s basically a legal malpractice warning label.

He sits in front of me at LSU football games. He reads law books like most people read menus.
Or something like that.

LOL someone who takes care of animals or cleans your teeth is more entitled to use doctor than someone with a PhD, PharmD, or EdD?
