In my experience, all lawyers do this.
You must not have much experience. Attorneys who use Esq. are few and far between, and we make fun of them.
We really make fun of the ones who put it after their names on Facebook.

Maybe it's a matter of where and when they use it.
I had a guy beat some pretty bad charges for me (and there was plenty of evidence) and he used "Esq." on at least some of his shite.
That said, I think it's stupid. Like, "oh, I'm an attorney, so I must be a pretty solid gentleman." We're basically one step away from a fedora here.

It’s not particularly common in EBR, though SULC grads seem to have a penchant for it.

Any esq sig indicates either douche or back end of the class or both.

I sign my name
With kindest regards, I remain
Dr. Ragincajun77, esq
I should start requesting people to call me doctor

A guy you call to help you beat charges with a stack of evidence against you will almost always have esquire after his name.

For example when you need to hire a criminal lawyer, as opposed to one that practices criminal law.

I think it’s straight up PR. A few guys corner the market with that strategy. /signed/ Dr. Peta Mon John “Thug Attorney”. .... say what you want, but the guy cleans up, and he doesn’t need to pay Gordon Callahan ad fees.

The only thing better than people who use esquire in their signature are those who put MBA in their signature.
I've worked at a fairly large company for about a year now (15,000+ employees) and amazed at the amount of people who put "Pat McCrotch, MBA" as their email signature.

Hahaha, you’ve never worked for the state. McCrotch, MPA. Or better yet, McCrotch didn’t go to college. She uses a strange combination of letters for various certicates she’s received in the past 20 years.

That guy was a really good lawyer, though. And he damn sure didn't go to Southern (not that there's anything wrong with that).
