If any of y'all without power and is in need of a genset, I have one I will loan out. Not a big one, but will run a Frig, freezer and a small ac window unit. I'm in the New Roads area and I can meet half way to LC if need be. Wish there was more I could do to help those in need.

Oh, have 15 gallons of gas too!

Also have a brand new 5000 BTU window AC in the box. Will sell that at cost which was $150.

Checking in from BFE, LA at the MIL’s.

Heading back tomorrow. Got some pics of my home. My patio awning is destroyed. Moderate roof damage. The picture I saw was taken from a distance and it looks like I may have a few holes in my roof. I’m one of the lucky one’s where a tree didn’t fall on my home. They fell away from it.

No one in my family suffered catastrophic losses. There’s damage but there’s nothing that can’t be replaced.

Gonna be a long few weeks.

damn, glad to hear it's all relatively okay on your end, but that's still aggravating

hang in there, baw

Just curious — how long does it take to restore power and water to areas this hard hit??

Is the water tower gone and has to be completely replaced? How do you even do that? No one will be able to live there, right? I mean was Nola this extent?? Electricity I’m sure but water as well?

I’m not sure about the route as far as any closures — maybe use Waze?

This may help with gas locations:

Good luck to you.

There’s over 100 generators still left at the Baton Rouge Lowe’s on Millerville. First come, first serve. No holds or prepay.

Don't want to distract too much from the Lake Charles and surrounding situation but I do want to give a shout-out to Louisiana's own Eric Blake at the NHC.

He was the one who didn't bite on that EPS run that shifted everything over to Galveston Bay and didn't have a single member in Louisiana. He put the forecast outside of the entire EPS spread, correctly, and helped avoid evacuations and panic in Houston by doing so. Additionally kept the LC area properly prepared with the track.

This will get lost in the talk of the NHC's great track forecast and meh intensity forecast but going outside the EPS envelope was pretty bold but Blake and the NHC clearly understood what was going to happen and stuck with it.

Just a great call.

Their stubbornness in times like this is often rewarded. Sure, a Marco falls apart of something, but more often than not they're great with the track of systems. We freak out about their 1/2 H adjustments, but the models are often making drastic swings and the NHC is the voice of reason through the noise.

Eric Blake Cyclone
@EricBlake12
I saw a lot of comments online about not moving the track westward near Houston when this ECMWF ensemble plot came out. #Laura actually made landfall outside of that ensemble (and that model usually has too much spread). Trust the professionals and don’t just worship one model!

He talked about it yesterday.

What do you think on those 2 open waves out in Atlantic now? The one in the lower latitude looks like it could be a problem for the Gulf.

The time between now and when whatever it is makes landfall (if it even develops) is an eternity in weather. Let’s just wait and see what it does.

Yeah, it's definitely fantasy land I was just looking at the models and they all seem to push it near the yucatan which is concerning if it gets that far west.

They exist.

Seriously, there are a lot of open questions and we have time before starting to worry about that. Come back early next week and if it's still worth discussing, we'll be discussing it farther.

For now, just worry about our SWLA folks.

Well them and a pretty potent wind profile for tornados today in Tennessee.

Anybody have info on how Jennings and Welsh are doing?

Got extended family over that way and obviously hard to get in touch with them. I assume they're in better shape than Iowa but figure some of y'all have firsthand knowledge.
