About what I expected to hear in this thread.

There are contracts with the specific utility. Typically they break down the potential impact area into zones for the first wave. They'll refine as needed to direct resources.

May get more tree damage though, as you'll get very strong east winds, the eye, then very strong west win

Looking at that picture... I feel like Katrina was wider in size, took over a larger portion of the gulf.
But this storm Laura... my goodness the eye...

We were in St. Bernard for Katrina. I never saw an adjuster for flood insurance. We filed a claim, and about 3 weeks after we got a call asking where they should mail the checks, that immediately they were sending out a check for the full policy amount. I asked if I needed to meet with an adjuster, and they said, no need, we could tell based on your address that you were wiped out, and we need to send the adjusters to places where it's not so obvious.
Same exact thing happened to me for Katrina in Nola. Adjuster asked me what my address was and said my house was considered a total loss and would mail the full amount to my mortgage company. Never had to fight them for a cent

Thank you for the replies. Always wondered how they worked.

Usually the smaller ones have a better chance of being stronger. Tighter pressure gradients.

The additional explanation makes sense, but the back to back answers were comical.

Nope. Was answering G Vice’s question.

Brett Addair and his crew were talking about where to deploy their last remote camera setup.
"There's an RV park over that way"
"Yeah! Let's get the cam set up at the RV park..."

Obviously not recent history, but Hilda in the 60s had an F-4 that killed 20 something people. My grandpa was in a tug boat tied up in the Intracoastal and saw the whole thing. He said it was the most terrifying thing he’s ever seen.
I was 13, remember it well.
A friend of my dad left with his wife and mother from below the Intracoastal and went to above the Intracoastal to be safer. Think it was his MIL’s home.
He lost his mother, wife and MIL.
Knew several people that were in that tornado
