I had this thought earlier and I saw one of the guys at Spacecity mention about the shear seeming to travel north with Laura and may not be much of a player in the end.

Might the outflow be pushing on the trough a little and keeping the shearing winds away from the core?

What is the implication of this?

Saw a report on storm2k that a group of storm chasers are already trapped due to flood surge on 82 south of Sabine NWR. Prayers sent!

I saw the same report and if it is true those folks are well fricked if someone can't go get them out before the storm hits.
There is nothing down there to get above the surge.

TWC was projecting essentially all of Lake Charles under 3-9 feet of water just now

I saw a faint hook echo over the Mix area in Pointe Coupee about 8 minutes ago, but it died off pretty quickly.

I want to be clear I'm asking rds because I don't know the answer to my question.

The implication is the shear doesn't pick up in the last run into landfall as is kind of expected and might have some more room to strengthen but the cap is still there with the shallow water near the coast.

It's speculation that could well be wrong.

If she’s pushing the shear then there goes one of those last minute players i always pray for to weaken a storm :(

Fellas, if you don't mind, say a prayer for my nephew. He is still at the Children's Hospital in Houston, while his parents have had to evacuate to San Antonio. He can't be moved.

I don't pray, but I can offer you this:

I actually know a nurse on the ride-out team in that NICU, and he is in extremely capable hands. This storm will have little effect on Houston, and a hospital is one of the safest places to be. He is perfectly safe there.

the 1 saving grace that may have started weakening the storm before landfall is looking like it's getting shoved away by the storm

now the last ditch hope is that an eyewall replacement cycle (NOT COUNTING TO BINGO) could start... which would weaken the storm a bit before landfall

Jesus. They stayed put through all of Rita.

Rita hit land as a cat 3, 115 mph hurricane.
Laura right now is predicted to hit as a solid cat 4.
I’d leave too especially knowing what Rita did.

don't think anyone from Houston to Beaumont will unpucker until that turn to the North happens. Nobody is suggesting it won't, but you know.

Even on the projected path, I'd rather not be in Beuamont.

Beaumont has flood basins that will help out a bunch.

I remember Rita was headed for Corpus Christi. The turn was forecasted to take the storm toward the Texas-LA border. I didn’t wait for the turn. I got the frick out to San Antonio.

I think Galveston will be fine, but it’s still nerve wracking having to wait for it to turn.
