Honor Code just said on TWC that they are not opening shelters like they normally would because of Covid.

18' surge would be worst than Rita, no? I know my friends who didn't flood for Rita use that as a base line in Lake Charles, but they got out and didn't take any chances yesterday.

from wiki on Rita:
"Still, a storm surge of up to 18 feet (5.5 m) struck southwestern Louisiana, and coastal parishes experienced extensive damage. In Cameron Parish, the communities of Holly Beach, Hackberry, Cameron, Creole and Grand Chenier were essentially destroyed.[64]

In south-central Vermilion Parish, storm surge reached all the way up to the communities of Abbeville, Gueydan, and Lake Arthur. The 10 ft (3.0 m) surge completely flooded Pecan Island, Intracoastal City, and Delcambre.[88] Nearly all of the structures on Pecan Island were destroyed.[3] Rescue efforts were undertaken for up to 1,000 people stranded by local flooding. On Saturday, September 24 alone, 250 people were rescued.[92]

In Cameron Parish, the damage was catastrophic, particularly along the coastline and north to the Intracoastal Waterway. Coastal storm surge was estimated around 18 ft (5.5 m), with lower levels farther inland from the coast, yet much of north-western and north-central Cameron Parish experienced significant flooding. The southern Cameron Parish communities of Cameron, Creole, Grand Chenier, Holly Beach, Johnson Bayou, Little Chenier and Oak Grove were either heavily devastated or entirely wiped out by the storm surge, with nearly 95 percent of homes, businesses, and infrastructure completely destroyed.

Because he belongs to another party? Take it to the Poli Board, man. Everybody on the same team here, trying to help everyone out.

Politics play no part in my sentiment during these times. Specifically looking at what he does to Louisiana from COVID, economics and now this bullshite. Stop enabling people who have no interest in your welfare.

I was working out of state when Rita hit LA. What was Rita like for EBRP? Expect similar for Laura?

If the government isn’t opening shelters because of Covid, that’s criminal. This storm will kill a lot of people if they are forced to shelter in place.

A virus with a mortality rate of 0.3% is apparently worse than a 15’ storm surge flooding a city of 100000

So if there are any deaths related to Laura, we can rightfully place the blame on JBE for not doing everything he could to prevent the spread of hurricane destruction.

He deserves every bad thing that comes to him if this is true. You are putting people in harms way to potentially die over a virus with a less than 1% death rate.

Moron...complete and utter moron and now people who lack resources will potentially die. Nice move a-hole!
