Leaving for Rosemary Beach on Saturday.

I guess we should bring a deck of cards or board games and leave the golf clubs at home.

Looking like 97L is getting real wide now and 13D showing some struggles.

Hoping 97L doesn’t jump up and surprise some people.

Updates coming at 11

So what are the steering components pushing this potential storm into Florida. Why all of the sudden a northerly turn?

Are they going to change between now and then? High build in somewhere? No high?

For those interested, Mark Sudduth with Hurricane Track has a great breakdown of the HWRF and HMON with a comparison between those and the global models.

Today's morning video. It is long, but it is interesting, particularly the last 10 minutes or so:

Larry Cosgrove

quote:

Next week may provide two tropical cyclone approaches to the Gulf Coast and Florida Peninsula.

Although Tropical Depression 13 might seem a bigger menace than Invest 97L, note that the Atlantic Ocean system is riddled with dry air and dust. 97L, over the central Caribbean Sea, has much more convection, is developing a circulation and will be moving through very warm waters. This smaller system is not to be taken lightly.

See also the track scenarios, which indicate that after skirmishing with Honduras, 97L will gain latitude and aim at the northern Yucatan Peninsula. Following that landfall, the impulse is back over the ultra-warm Gulf of Mexico on a path that could take into into SE TX next Wednesday or Thursday.

TD 13 may come close to the Greater Antilles. But what could prove noteworthy is that if the circulation survives, S FL and the Keys may be dealing with a named storm. And by extrapolation, the central or western Gulf Coast could see yet another approach around August 29 - 30.

Keep your guard up, my friends.

Any chance they could run into each other and combine strength?

There will be a pretty strong ridge centered roughly off the coast of the Carolinas. It is showing up pretty well on models right now. The trough currently over the southeast goes away/lifts, and allows the ridge to be the dominant steering factor, cutting off/diminishing the chances for a recurve. This is in regards to TD-13.

Looking at the models though, I’m assuming it’ll be a depression/TS event.

That's what I thought; but reading that guy's stuff, it sounded very doom and gloom.
