It was a rider of that float that was trying to get off before the float came to its final stop... kinda like when a plane is taxiing to the gate. You're supposed to stay in place until you're cleared to get off.

There were two drunk driving accidents during Endymion in recent years. There have been shootings on the St. Charles Avenue parade route near Erato and Felicity Streets. Parades weren't canceled then. Were cars banned? Cars, floats, guns, etc. don't kill people. People kill people or kill themselves by putting themselves in bad situations.

Someone who went to school with a sibling got run over by a truck on Mardi Gras Day. I was 12, 14? at the time. I guess it was burned into my memory to stand back.

People from New Orleans (and both victims were from here) were brought up with Mardi Gras. They should know better than to get up next to a vehicle that can start moving at any second.

The problem is not the tandem floats, it's allowing the people to crowd up to a stopped or moving float.

Maybe they could have a warning signal before the float starts to move again and give people a chance to back away.

There aren't enough LEO or barricades to keep people from getting too close.

Two people ruined Mardi Gras for millions of people. They were both old just ban people over 40 from going to the parade

In the last decade or so, the number of flambeaus and mules has significantly decreased. These were the governors, so to speak, of the parade. The mules, moreso. Their huge steaming dumps piled up everywhere forced people to stop/slow down, as did the homeless flambeau who knew the difference between and nickel and a quarter hitting the pavement.

This is her party’s ilk man. Blame the inanimate abject for the problem rather than the human being. Blame the tandems, the guns, and the statues, but never affix blame on the human, UNLESS.... unless of course it’s the opposing party and it can score you brownie points with your constituents.

We are back in elementary school in case you haven’t noticed. This is the mentality that these people operate in.
