LaToya cut out overtime for the NOPD during Mardi Gras this year. Here is the real issue that contributed to both deaths. The NOPD is making the floats go faster because they can’t get overtime and they will ticket the float drivers if they stop.
If this is true, than the blood is on her hands. That's way too big of a coincidence to not have significant correlation.

As far as safety goes, what is it hurting? Nothing. It can ONLY make things better.
More tractors, less experienced drivers in big crowds. More breakdowns followed by rushes to catch back up.
It’s been almost 40 years since an incident. Make it harder to get between and hopefully go decades before the next

I’m sitting in the back taking a break from Thoth’s onslaught of throws and something jumped out at me today as I paid close attention to the floats. The first float den to develop some sort of spectator guard along the bottom and between floats will hit the jackpot. The floats have entirely too much ground clearance. Someone needs to develop some kind of safety system to either keep people from slipping underneath or keep them at least 3ft from the float or maybe both. Seems like designers and builders can solve this issue forever.

It’s not terribly complicated, frankly. And a lot of ways to tweak it and quickly remedy the risk. Just never happened so I assume no one worried much. I’m guessing by st pats we see some minor changes, if the city is interested in finding solutions

You are really reaching.
More tractors/drivers equals more control. One sober driver per 20 drunken heathens on a 5 ton load compared with one sober driver per 60 drunken heathens on a 15 ton load.

You are not suggesting a solution. You are pointing out a problem that we already know about.
