Assuming what you say here is true, despite all that is Rand's request not reasonable to ensure the proper accountability of US taxpayer dollars? It would be one thing if he's trying to block the bill completely. But that's not what he's doing.

Correct. He is just trying to get the bill rewritten or at least amended before it is passed in the Senate to specify the role of the IG and not just mention it in passing like the house bill does.

This is a summary of the bill.

This is the bill which has more detail regarding oversight.

I agree to a point; however, you can glean a great deal about what's going on by following a variety of Twitter feeds. Taken in totallity, "The Twitter Universe" has been pretty accurate.

More evidence that Ukraine is attacking into the Russian flank.

Ukrainian forces have reportedly crossed the river Northwest of Rubizhne(Kharkiv Oblast) and are advancing towards Vovchans'k also they have advanced east of Staryi Saltiv and taken the town of Zarichne(Unconfirmed).

Politics? More like Bolitics. Mama said politics is the devil. Momma says alligators are ornery cause they got all them teeth and no tooth brush. Momma said this thread should be sticky but mods are ornery

This is my guestimation of what I think Ukraine will attempt.

The Red lines represent the 1st phase, the blue lines the 2nd phase, and the black lines represent the primary Russian logistics lines

Crossing the river/lake and establishing the footholds (as they appear to be doing) would be the first step in this offensive.

The basemap here is from the Nasa FIRMS system and the red dots represent fires in the last 24 hours.

I have a growing fear that when Russia’s failure becomes too obvious for Russia to ignore, China is going to extract a very high price to offer Russia a way out. Imagine a Russia so desperate for aid that it is forced to sign up to a humiliating Belt and Road plan.

The west must walk a tightrope to both bring about a Ukrainian victory while avoiding a Russian national humiliation. Even though Russia probably deserves it, the cost of them falling into the Chinese orbit is frightening.

A. We can do both. Well we could if we had a competent administration when it came to domestic policy. As I said earlier, I have to grudgingly acknowledge the Biden administration has handled Ukraine fairly well. But they're still absolute utter shite when it comes to our domestic issues, caring more about appeasing their batshit insane progressive base than actually trying to fix all the shite they broke.

B. The fallout of Russia seizing Ukraine would be felt across the entire globe. Because Russia wouldn't stop with Ukraine. There's a reason why Finland and Sweden are joining NATO.

For all the vaunted Russia/China friendship, China has certainly been more than quiet about the progression of the invasion. China has to be careful not to get itself stuck to the tar baby that is this invasion. I'm sure they are happy to sit back and let Russia flounder.

I also suspect any involvement by China will be in the economic sphere and not militarily.

When is Russia going to say enough is enough with us giving cash to Ukrainian oligarchs and contractors at Raytheon and escalate things?

They have very limited means of escalation… they’ve blown their load so to speak.

The fake outrage from the right in regards to the ‘crisis at home’ is laughable… don’t act like you give a shite about people here with no formula. What domestic policies do you propose to combat this problem? I highly doubt it involves taking the $40b away from ukriane and giving it to American poors.

Save for his reckless rhetoric, I mostly agree, but Biden asked for $33 billion and Congress instead gave him $40 billion for no reason I can tell. The fact of the matter is that more elected federal Democrats have been to Ukraine than the Mexican border. I just don't know how much more our country is expected to do in this.

I have to think the thought process on the Aid packages has to be something along the lines of "We're degrading the military of one of our 2 largest adversaries without having to spill any American blood".

Didn't we ultimately destroy the USSR by making them bankrupt themselves trying to keep up with our defense spending? Maybe this isn't much different, just a higher velocity to the spend.

I certainly am a bit unsettled with how much we're spending, maybe it's worth it? Without doubt, it has changed the global geopolitical calculus.

Getting Finland and Sweden on board was worth it alone.

I agree that the addition of Sweden and Finland to NATO is good for NATO. Would they have joined if we hadn't opened up the spigots as much as we have? Who knows. I don't think Ukraine would have survived without our assistance.
