If I’m not mistaken the Finland is another country where losing the Russian O&G won’t be that big of a deal due to their shift from O&G in the first place.

Doesn’t seem Russias military is very technical so I’m not sure what Vlad thinks he’s going to do other than I guess cyber warfare.

I heard other industries in the west were doing the same thing - buying appliances for the chips.

Which doesn't help those trying to get appliances...

I agree with you 1000% on this.

I pray we don't have to put boots on the ground there.

It is the same (city). The Ukrainians should have pulled out a while ago, but did not.

There are a few thousand men there.

The Russians crossed the river to the northwest, they’re pushing up from Popasna in the south, and they’re attacking Severodonetsk, it’s twin city, from the east.

I didn't truly understand the importance of NCOs until I was a company commander.

That's why they are called the "Backbone of The Army."

St. Petersburg would be a delightful city if it was run by Finland or Estonia.

but can someone break down some of the strategic military advantages this move has for NATO/ US. A foothold in the Artic , valuable partner who are experts at Artic warfare & NATO can learn from them, etc.....?
a very wealthy (per capita), highly educated, incredibly strong and stable democratic government, spends over the 2% GDP threshold, I believe they have a strong military defense industry, and they have a strategic location

Not to mention their, assumingly, ability to help us understand Russia

I figured the Ukrainians had put a hurting on Russia with that artillery attack on the bridge. However, I did not realize that they put THAT BIG of a hurting on Russia.

Anybody know if they were using NATO supplied toys or some of their old USSR vintage artillery with drones as spotters?

Yes and no. Finland has been trying to shift away from O&G but it has not finished the job yet. Finland has reduced its reliance on natural gas from 20% to 10%. It will reduce its electrical production from natural gas even more when its 5th nuclear reactor is fully operational in September. It's plan for completely weaning off of natural gas is dependent on completion of it's 6th and 7th nuclear reactors which would be built in a new nuclear power plant. That is a problem because Rosatom owns 33% of that power plant and was the company that was supposed to build it. Finland cancelled the contract in February but the status of the plant is still up in the air.

Finland is also still dependent on petroleum based fuels for its vehicles (even though roughly 20% of the vehicles in the country are EVs) and Russia was its main supplier. Russia cutting O&G to Finland is going to hurt Finland but I think they prefer higher gas and utility prices to being vulnerable to the whims of the mad dictator next door.

He watches follows pro-Russia Telegram channels and of course he believes that TASS and RT are almost holy scripture, but he is one of the pro-Russian posters who is smart enough not to link his sources of fake news.
